Hi guys,

wondering if anybody here plays 12 strings. I'm looking to get one for gigs, (which means it will be getting Jager spilled on it) but it's got to be in the 6-700 dollar range. I just want one for playing like, 'Dead or Alive', and you know, stuff. Does anyone know about the Takamine, or perhaps Seagull 12 strings?

Thanks,
Aaron

For gigging, I think the Takamine or Seagull would be great.  And though this may be a little out of your stated price range, I recently saw (and played) a very nice-sounding Martin DM12 at my local store.  Also, with some patience, you might pick up a used Larrivee -03 series 12-string for something close to your stated price.

get a Larrivee D-02 or 03 12 string. You won't regret it. they can be found in your price range if you shop around.

Here was a similar thread a little earlier, although you apparently have a bigger budget.

Let me echo the recommendation of the Larrivee -03 12 strings (or -01 or -02). The D-03-12 got Naboz and Randy hooked on Larrys and I just picked up a nice LV-03-12. Great guitars.

QuoteMy favourite 12 string is a Yamaha... the FG720-12 to be exact. Terrific quality of materials and bright jangly tone all for $400. Remember, this is coming from someone who traded a Larrivee L03-12 for the Yamaha FG720-12 (and a bunch of other stuff...)

Holy crap, trading a Larry for a Yamaha? I'll try one, but I'm incredulous at the moment. Of course, I'd love to get a Larry if I could find one, and if I could afford it. Thanks for the input, everybody.

Aaron

P.S. Damn, after looking at the previous thread where two Larrivees went for 5-600, I'm just going to wait until I see a deal like that.

I recently tried to uload my garrison 12 string and in the mean time have fallen back in with it. I have it tuned to open c, g and standard in the course of a performance and the guitar holds up well and sounds great. It falls short of taylor, martin and larrivee in the tone department but you can get one new for just under 6 bills. well worth checking out in my opinion. I've seen them go on ebay for between 350 and 5.

I started that thread and ended up buying a Washburn Cumberland maple jumbo 12er from one of our forum members - Dodge. It's a great sounding guitar that would be well within your budget.

Good luck with your search.
