...for a ridiculously low price (less than $200). I found a D-02 from 2000 or 2001 (serial number in the 35000's, I think). Solid spruce top with solid mahogony B/S. It had a 3 - 3 1/2 inch crack on the top lower bout but it sounded great so I figured that I could have the crack fixed for $50 or so. It would be a small price to pay for a Larrivee that sounded this good.
Better yet, the guitar tech I always go to told me that the crack didn't go thru the top and that in his opinion it was stable.
I've been playing it for most of the day. It's sounding better and better. I think I lucked out this time.

Where in the world did you score that at? This has to be some kind of story......... let me get a cup of coffee...... :SHK>

Well, I traded in a cheap guitar that I never play, so I got $$$ off for that. Plus they (GC) knocked off more $$$ for the crack, so I wound up spending less than $200. I consider it a great deal, especially the way it sounds. :GRN>

$200.00 for a Larrivee Dread... amazing! :SHK>

Good for you! Those D-02's are great sounding guitars IMO.

Thanks, DT. Guess I'm becoming another Larrivee convert. :GRN>

It happens. Playing them can be dangerous to your pocket book. You've managed to avoid it on this one but ... bwa ha ha ha ... no one can eat play just one!

Those D-02 are great guitars.I got one myself a year or so ago for $99 from a local guitar store- Huber Breese. It also had a crack(or two) but they were on the back. It was an ugly repair but is holding together. I leave the guitar on the stand in my kitchen and picked it up continuously to strum. I got incredibly lucky I think,  the store isnt a Larrivee dealer and not sure how it ended up there. Was even marked for sale as a Garrivee-guess they couldnt read the name on the headstock.  Patrick

Have you any idea how jealous us folk get when we hear stories like these. Larrivees are as rare as hens teeth over here in England John R

You know I went into shock when I saw the price- even after seeing the cracks in the back. Took me thirty seconds to think it over then had to call my wife/accountant for approval.First appalled at how it had been treated then relieved cause I got a guitar that is already broken in.  I can now enjoy playing it without worrying about dings, though my initial thought was to baby it because it sounded so good. Its also the easiest playing guitar I have either set up perfectly(for me) from the factory or at a latter date. It just goes toshow you never know, I went in to get strings for my Martin LXM and walked out with a cheap gem.

I've got an OM-02 that I wouldn't trade for the world. Found it in the back of a small instrument store stuck in one of those sideways racks for all the guitars that nobody wants. They didn't even have a case for it.

I sent the serial number in to Larrivee and they told me that the sides and back are sapele. I think that's pretty cool considering all the excitement about the sapele 03s that came out recently.

I saw a used OM-02 on ebay this week that went for about $400!
