Yesterday afternoon someone went into my apartment in downtown Juneau, Alaska, and stole my Larrivee L-03R along with some other items.

Serial #: 76608
Spruce top and rosewood sides with a small scratch near the soundhole. Also stolen was a hard case with Larrivee logo.

I don't know if posting will help, but I want to get the word out.  Maybe it will appear on eBay.  Please contact me at (907) 586-3440 if you have any information.  Reward if found.  Thanks.

Bummer. Sorry to hear about this and hope it turns back up in good shape.

The guitar has been recovered!  I put up posters right after it was stolen which included the serial number.  Today a shady guy called from a payphone and later dropped it off at work.  He claims someone sold it to him before leaving town.  Through the power of the internet I found out that the shady guy is on probation.  I'll have the police get fingerprints and see if they match anything.

good news!  hope it is good condition.

Ok, so the guy claimed to have bought the guitar?  But he just willingly handed it over to you even though he was screwed over?  I don't think so.  Man, there are some dumb criminals out there.

I haven't gone over the guitar much so I could preserve fingerprints.  I just opened the case with a pen to make sure it wasn't filled with rocks.  So far it looks good, but I'm not going to say I'm 100% sure it's fine yet.  He claims to have paid $500 for it from a man who was leaving town on a plane or a ferry the next day (Juneau has no roads out of town).  The guy that dropped it off is basically homeless and he camps right outside of town in the woods in a commune/campground.

That's great you got it back.  Good thinking on the fingerprints!  I used to work at the Police Dept. and 1/20 people would have the common sense not to touch recovered stolen property so the detectives could investigate.  Keep us updated...

I know we say we would hunt this and that down, but that really only applies to idiot with nothing better to do than to steal for a living or excitment.  As for this person, I would have given him 100 dollars.  (because I got it back, that simple.  At least he has the decency to return it.  Sometimes I think we should take a step back and stand in a homeless person's shoes, it's tough)

Think about it.
1.) you got your guitar back, he could have just thrown it in the river.
2.) Maybe he is for real, and he did pay 500 for it and returned it to you (more unlikely things have happened), what would you see yourself as then?
3.) If you pursue this more, and even if he does get busted (if he is the perp) and punished, then what? You'd have achieved absolutely nothing.

If you come out of a totalled car wreck mostly unscathed, you really dont think about beating the crap out of the other moron behind the wheel.  You are just happy to be alive, and a happy person you shall be (speaking as Yoda).
