Presumably most that visit or are members here play guitar to some degree but i'd like to know what other musical insturments folks here play or have played either for fun or as a profession.

I started my musical journey playing the recorder in the 4th grade and the ukulele in the 5th grade.  I still have my trusty Kamaka Ukulele and still  play it once in a while and the clarinet i took up in the 7th through 12th grade which i also still play on occassion...i just had my 1973 vintage French Buffet R-13 Clarinet completely refurbished and it plays and looks just like new now.  Now in my middle aged years (42) i had a brief stint playing (or trying to play) the violin just prior to taking up the guitar...The viloin is a wonderful instrument if played well but i became clear it was torture listening to the noise i made with it so i put the violin aside and along came the guitar which i'm doing much better with and have no intention on giving up.

I play guitar, bass, and drums mainly.  Working on learning piano and mandolin.  For a couple of years I played trombone, and probably still could if I needed to.

Started with piano at 9 yrs. Didn't stick with it, though played keyboard in garage band in 11th and 12th grade.

Played clarinet and bass clarinet in school marching band so must'v played grade 6 thru 11. Band trips rock!

Took up guitar at sophomore year in HS...stuck with it off and on 'til decided to play steadily around 1994....have stayed with it! Never played electric worth a darn.....so mostly acoustic and some 12 string now.

A stint learning harmonica....can do a few tunes, but just to entertain myself.

Played 5 string banjo briefly, same for tenor banjo tuned dgbe for a year or so.

You know, I think a ukelele would be fun!! Maybe some day.
Don't take no wooden nickles, and don't put beans in your ears.

I played piano for a year when I was in 5th grade.

I played trombone from the 6th grade to the 10th grade....

10 years later, bought my first guitar.

20 years later, pulled the guitar out from under my bed and started to take lessons.  Been playing everyday for a year now and loving it!

:P

I'm a lousy guitar player....an even lousier harmonica player...but man do I have fun!  Oh yeah, I aint a bad singer.... :D

I came home from elementary school one day and told my parents I wanted to play French horn. So they let me sign up for 4th grade band as a drummer. Why? My brother had some moth-eaten old wooden drum from his youth lying around the house. From there I graduated to bass drum :: yawn :: then cymbals and knew it was time to crash 'em when I felt the bass drummer's elbow in my ribs. I did keyboards and vocals in a high school band that gigged around town for 3 yrs....

Roll calendar: lying in a military hospital bed recovering from a little 'police' action in the seventies, I gave my buddy $60 to get me a guitar during my 3-month recovery. He came back from the base exchange with a Yamaha twelve-stringer and I have been playing guitars, since.

I'm from a musical family, take to instruments like ducks to water, and am most experienced singing.

Started guitar in high school, lost interest (amazing what a really poor quality guitar can do to dampen interest!), started again about 8 years ago with a Yamaha classical, bought a Fender rosewood 6-string, then the Yairi DY-52, then my back complained too much, and my arm started getting numb when I played. Got my Larrivee OM in November of last year, and my parlor last month. Now I don't get much else done ;)
