I saw this "Plate Mate" when I ordered more strings. What do you think?

 too weird for me. I don't really mind when something "new and improved" comes along when it comes to the electric guitar.  but for the acoustic....nah, call me a purist I guess....

That's what I thought, too. I'm not sure I want new brass hardware inside my guitars. I was just curious if anyone else had seen them. (some days I have way too much time on my hands, and no guitar around to make good use of it!)

I'm with you guys. Seems like it might dampen the tone somewhat too. The less on the soundboard the better.

It is my understanding that the ball-end of the string is wedged between the underside of the saddle (or more accurately, the underside of the sound board) and the bridge pin, with most of the effort exerted against the bridge pin.  If that's correct, than the real pressure is on the pin side of this relationship.  Two considerations: the pressure is relatively constant and history shows us that the pin can withstand this force and secondly, pins, if damaged, are easily and inexpensively replaced.  Looks like that new product is yet another gizzmo we don't need to make the guitar work properly.
