Have been reading some past posts on the Gotoh 510s and wondering if anyone can comment on other than their weight or a guitar's headstock size, why one choose one over the other? Each has both large and small buttons.   Thank you!

I highly recommend them. See pics for how the 510's look on my OOV. These are the 18:1 ratio which I also like for being able to slowly tighten up to zero cents without going past it. Zero lag, tuning stays stable, and is usually a drop in for Larrivee's.  Yeah, pics shows wrong screw position, but still, it has worked perfectly without being screwed down. I also have the same set on my OO-05.

I like the butterbeans which are thinner and wider than the standard keys which suit my fingers better. The standard Larrivee one's seem cramped and too close to the headstock in comparison.

Sorry I can't answer about their weight, but I've never noticed them being heavier that the originals. Pricing seems high, but given how crucial it is for a guitar to stay in tune I consider it worth the extra expense over other US brands, particularly whatever generic's StewMac has rebranded. ( hint - not a fan of StewMac )

I'll offer that Gotoh's website is worth a look as the variety of sizes and models is amazing. You'll discover the US sites offer only a limited selection of Gotoh's tuners, but check eBay before you buy as there are several sellers carrying Gotoh's.

I dunno what tarrifs might do to japart's pricing, but it's worth checkin out their large selection of Gotoh tuners in various ratios, screw placement and buttons.

Agree with jpmist.
Very pleased with 510s on several guitars.
And the butterbeans look great.
Waverlys have disappointed since the company sold IMHO.

Like your chrome 510's jpmist, they look really neat.

Not much difference. But the standard Gotoh has a longer arm than the mini so they extend further out beyond the headstock.
See the image below.
I believe the buttons are identical.

Thanks! I think the butterbeans really make a difference in feel when turning, but maybe that's just me.

They do look good though, I swopped out the originals on my OM-03 all Hog a while ago for gold 510's, if only I could figure out how to upload photos here.

I guess I'm the outlier, I don't much care for those tuner buttons.

I've not had any problems with the tuners on my Larrivée guitars.

Well, now that you've said it, I will agree.  The aesthetic of the 510s have kept them off my guitar.  I do have on a set of regular old black Gotohs that work well.   It's actually my second set.  Circa 2004 or so I bought a used set off eBay and wore them out.  Replaced with a new set from Philadelphia Luthier Supply and couldn't be happier.  I just think the regular Gotohs look better.  YMMV.

New to me Halcyon 000 mahogany. One of the previous owners put on the midsize 510 1:21 tuners, another subsequently changed to these 1:18 tuners. Am considering changing to another Gotoh color but uncertain as to this size.  :?

Queequeg was kind enough to post the standard and mini sizes, and frankly I was hard pressed to tell the size difference. May be the same situation here, but anyone care to take a guess?

Thank you!

Just a fwiw...  it's pretty easy to take toothpicks and apply glue, push them into the mismatched screw holes and then shave them flush with a razor blade or sharp chisel once the glue sets.  You can even usually find a furniture repair pencil to match the color pretty close.  The only downside is the hour you have to wait for the glue to set before installing the new tuners.

All thing being equal, I use the 510 regulars on my C10 and DV-10, but I used the mini 510s on my Larrivee parlor guitar due to the scale and smaller body size.

Gotoh has at least two button sizes and several different styles for the 510 series tuners.  for the most part, the various buttons will fit either the SGL510 series (standard size), SGS510 series (small size), and SGi510 (baby size) tuners.  Here's a set of SGL510 tuners (standard size) with smaller size black plastic buttons.  This combo isn't as bulky in weight or appearance as the typical rounded metal buttons commonly seen on Gotoh 510s.
