Now that's strange to hear that the T40 is lacking bass.  I've got a T40 in sitka/mahogany and when used in dropped D tuning the bass hits like a thunderstorm!  In fact for the top B and E strings (when using light gauge strings) I upped the gauge to .0165 and .0125 respectively, for a little more presence.  Goes to show each guitar has its own voice.
