IMG_0185.jpgHi all,

First time poster, long-time Larrivee owner.

Last week, I e-mailed Larrivee about the what the list price would be coming off the floor today for my D-40; J.R. gave me the information that I needed and then promptly sold me a moon-spruced topped LV-03R.

While I await my new Larrivee and the inevitable "I thought you said we needed to tighten our budget" comment from the wife, I figured I should see about selling this D-40--or at least researching the sale price. :-)

J.R. suggested that I use this forum to get some input from you guys. So, here I am.

Here are some relevant details:

It is D-40, with a Sitka Spruce top and Austrian Flamed Walnut back and sides. It was manufactured in December of 2017.

The guitar is essentially new in terms of looks, as it has been barely played. (We have been slowly re-modeling the last few years so it stayed in the case with the humidifier most of the time; and, I've also on an electric guitar kick during that time period as well; I go back and forth for some reason.)

It will come with a non-Larrivee hard case.

According to Larrivee when they pulled up the serial: "Jean had about 100 incredible sets. They are all but gone now. Fantastic stuff it was/is." (Limited Edition?)

The answer to my "coming off the floor today" listed priced: "Approx. $3k without any pickup."

(I had a LR Baggs Anthem Internal Tru-Mic Acoustic pickup installed, which sales for a little over $300.)

Let me know your thoughts.

Note: I live in the Nashville area and will probably want to post it as a "Local Pickup Only" sale. Not sure if that changes anythingIMG_3522 (006).jpg6.jpg   but thought I should mention.

Thanks in advance.

I think you should keep it!  What a beautiful guitar.  I have found that many average people don't know Larrivee, so it may be hard to move at $3,000.

eBay and Reverb are probably the best places to get a general idea what a D-40 is worth, then adjust that for the wood upgrade. There is a OO with Austrian Walnut back and sides listed here in the classifieds that is marked as sold. You could check with the seller to see what if what it sold for.

There aren't a lot of sound samples on YT of this wood combo.  A well recorded demo might help.  Doesn't need to be fancy.

Good luck with the sale.

I wonder if this is a bad time to sell a guitar. Since I have returned to the guitar, I have sold 2 Waterloo's, 2 Martin's, and 4 Eastman instruments. It took 3 months max to sell these instruments on Reverb. I am currently listing an almost new (maybe 8 hours of playtime) Eastman E-D0DL on Reverb and eBay. It is now on its fourth month and no takers. I bought it for $1369 and am offering it for $1000. Lots of lookers, but no takers. I'll probably just have to keep it. In fact, the Eastmans now come only with thermal aging tops, and this adds to the price of the instrument. My $1369 instrument now lists at $1500. The Martins sold within a month, the Waterloo's within 2 months, and the Eastman's within 3 months. I think the economy is so bad, people are just not buying. I play lefty and keep an eye on lefty instrument models I like. I'm not seeing any sales on the instruments I'm watching, and we are talking months now. My two Larrivee's will not be for sale, but I follow others selling them. Let's just say it is really slow out there. Lefty Larrivee's new or used aren't selling on Reverb. I know I'm not buying unless I sell this Eastman, which is a great instrument, it just isn't for me compared to what I have. I just wanted to experience an Adirondack top. Well, now I have one LOL. I'd hang on to that beautiful instrument at least until the economy turns around.

If that guitar sounds as good as it looks, I'd have a hard time selling it but good luck if you decide to sell it; just don't give it away.

FWIW, I paid a little less for my Forum VI with a Venetian Cutaway and hardshell case so your price for a 6 year old guitar might be a bit high. I played a used mahogany OM40 without a pickup last week at the local Guitar Center that was listed for $1,499. If that had been a 00 and it sounded that good, I would have bought it.

I also have a 2004 Special Edition Larrivee parlor guitar with flamed maple back and sides that was one of a run of 100. All of my Larrivees have a satin finish and I don't think anyone does satin better than Larrivee.

Until someone actually has a Larrivee in their hands and plays it, I think they have a hard time comprehending how good those guitars really are. You just bought your second one so I guess you already know.
