Friends give me all manner of guitar-related paraphernalia.
Some weird, wrong stuff. I say 'thank you' and it all goes in the back of the closet. Doesn't see the light of day again.
But that's just me.

But Rob, I never told you, I get stage fright pretty bad. OK- Really bad!
And a couple years ago, I started taking my shoes off (based upon your moniker) and it had the most liberating effect. I haven't had a bad case of heart-stopping, brain-freezing stage fright since.
Worst I get these days is the jitters, which I think is normal.
So I owe you a big thank you, Rob.  :cheers

I wear shoes but haven't worn a watch in 50 years. Never found that I needed one and hate having things attached to me. No rings, no jewelry, no tattoos. I do like hats though.

I can see Michigan from my house (Isle Royale) and it's crazy to wear no socks here. Winter returned today in a nasty mood.

I've been tempted to visit Isle Royale for years.
It's a commitment, though.
Hard to get there and just as hard to leave. And you're roughing it while you're on island.
As you likely know, wolves are gradually being reintroduced to Isle Royale. The moose population is getting out of balance.
If I get there, I'm definitely taking socks, with or without a guitar motif.

I'd love to do that too. Oddly, on this shore of Superior, here in Ontario, I'm a lot closer to the island than you are. It's about 23 miles out and takes up much of the horizon. Whoever drew up those borders was  obviously drinking.  :beer

au contraire, mon frère.
Whosoever FAILED to draw up those borders may have been drinking. The sober one got the island, I should think.  :winkin:

I never said which side was drunk, did I? Canada was mostly run by a bunch of Scots back then, doncha know? I would have thought they'd be more frugal, however.

By the way, can you even see Isle Royale from the rest of Michigan? Shouldn't it be part of Minnesota if it's going to be part of the US?    :laughin:

No, and neither did I  :laughin:
No idea how Michigan ended up with this island. Just lost in an ocean (or Great Lake) of countless late-night smoke-filled back-room deals that always have/always will define our politics, I suppose.

I looked it up. It's also closer than I thought which is why I can see it so well. It's only fifteen miles from where we are.

Apparently, we can blame the British English. Damn Sasanach.

The specific reasons behind Isle Royale becoming US territory instead of remaining British have largely been lost to the mists of time. However, a few details are generally believed to be correct. Benjamin Franklin, assigned by the US to negotiate the Treaty of Paris with the English certainly had a role to play in how the map was drawn. Lake Superior was the least "known" of the Great Lakes maps of it in the late 1700s were quiet inaccurate. Maps often included islands, even large ones that turned out to not even actually exist. In general, the boundary between the US and British Canada (a colony at the time) was generally supposed to run down the middle of Lake Superior, Huron, Erie and Ontario. That pretty much happened in terms of Huron, Erie, and Ontario, but not for Lake Superior. Supposedly, Benjamin Franklin, having been advised that certain islands including Isle Royale contained a variety of mineral wealth, made certain that a rather distorted map of Lake Superior was used for determining the boundary. Isle Royale was shown as being more central in the Lake, and not nearly so close to its northern shore, while other islands to the east, including a few nonexistent islands like the mythical island of Phelipeaux, were shown as much larger and more to the north. With so many other far more pressing matters in the treaty, the British did not choose to dwell on the Lake Superior boundary specifics in detail.

Lastly, it is worth noting that the British saw the newly born United States as a very lucrative partner to trade with, and thus they did not want to greatly anger them or sour the new relationship by dwelling on petty issues. As one French diplomat stated, "The English buy peace rather than make it".

Very interesting.  :thumb
But it looks like staking a claim for the mineral rights on Phelipeaux might not have been the wisest investment for my retirement after all.

Maybe. If very obscure references are in this year!  :laughin:

So I floated the idea by my writing partner. Never know.  :cheers
