Thinking About A Schertler M-AG6 For My New Larrivee...thoughts?

Hello Fellow Larrivites!



As I IMPATIENTLY wait for my new OOO-40R w/Moonwood Vintage Sunburst Top, I have been exploring pickups and have heard some very nice things about the Schertler M-AG6. All my other Larrivee's have LR Baggs pickups and for the most part I have been very satisfied...the Lyric in my OO-03MH has been my least favorite just because getting to the battery quickly has proven problematic (I know...shoulda checked BEFORE the gig!!), but the Anthem in my OM-03 MT (my current go-to) is really an amazing pickup/guitar pairing. My D-10e has an iMix that sounds killer and sound guys love when I plug her in!

Truth is, I feel kind of guilty considering something other than a Baggs as I am a loyal kind of guy...but something is telling me I should go for something different with this guitar.

So. any thoughts or practical experience with this piece of equipment? Enquiring minds want to know!

There is nothing on the market like the Schertler AG6. It actually contains 7 Class A preamps and 6 individually tuned magnets. The 7th preamp is to accommodate the addition of a studio quality condensor Mic or a Dynamic Mic that mounts internally. There are a growing number of Nashville Artists and others that are now using this pickup. You should be able to find many videos and reviews of this pickup online. I have a Schertler Blue stick or something.
The one with the circular battery.
I've been trying to get a new pick-up, saddle piece, as the wire has broken off.

Well, I put the Schertler M-AG6 pickup with the DYN-AG6 Microphone into my new OOO-40R and have been putting it through the ringer the past several weeks. From big stages with quality PA and sound guys to the intimate Bluebird Cafe to small venues with less than stellar sound systems and I am very pleased with how it's handled the variety. Using the pickup/mic combo allows me to quickly dial into whatever environment I am dealing with. When playing with a band I keep it pretty much on the pickup as I'm just strumming rhythm. With solo or duo gigs, I use both but lean more into the mic for a fuller bass response.

Sounds much better plugging directly into the board rather than through my Baggs Venue preamp, still learning more and more each gig, but I am a fan!

Just an update for anyone interested...played a few songs at the Schertler booth during Summer NAMM this weekend, the Schertler guys suggested I try their S-Mic-M external mic as opposed to the DYN-AG6 internal microphone. So we took a minute, unplugged one and plugged in the other and WOW!!! Totally changed everything sonically! The DYN-AG6 provides a warm, woody sound that accentuates the mid-range from my OOO-40R, but the external blew me away with how well it projects the entire spectrum! Every bit of the sound just rang out and gave me an amazing total sound! Next weekend I will be playing a brew pub, then an outdoor venue, then a theater...looking forward to really putting this through the paces and reporting back, but I think I may be in love with this pickup system!
