I Love my new L-05e
But the problem is that I don't know what strings to use
Just wanted to ask your opinion. Could you let me know what strings you like to use?
thank you so much~!

Martin SP's mediums.
Larrivee L07 (1983)
1983 David Wren Concert
1961 Gibson LG1(converted to LG2)

I'm liking the strings that came on my LV-03...but I haven't a clue what they are. Not intending to hijack the post, but I'd appreciate knowing what's standard out of Vancouver these days. Then I'll recommend 'em!

Martin 000-16 (gone for now)

Larrivee F-33 Mandolin (8/1/2008)
Larrivee A-33 (8/21/2009)
Kawalek Octave Mandolin
Eastman MOD 305 Octave Mandolin

As always, I'll say, six ... new ones. Unless it's a 12 string.

D'addario EJ17

Riverbend, if you bought the guitar new they are most likely daddario exp's but at one point larrivees were shipped out with clear tones as well. If you bought it used then its anyone's guess.

Thanks for the info B & Q! So it follows, to pastorh, I've got no complaints about the d'addario's. I've pretty much played cheap and replaced often myself anyway, but I like these.

thanks for your input.
I guess I'll give a try to Daddario's
Its just amazing how different strings change the character of the guitar
I mean you can achieve different tones with different strings
the versatility of acoustic guitars are truly amazing!

You owe it to yourself to try as many different brands and gauges as you can, and then settle on what's right for your style, touch, and ear.

Although, I'll give another vote for Martin SP's - the phospher bronze ones, gauge of your choice. Ironically, Martin strings work quite well on Larrivees!  :thumb

Another  :+1: for Martins.......my weapons of choice on my C-10E
Larrivee Custom LCJ-10-12E 'Baby Dragon' and vine-of-life inlay
Larrivee Custom C-10E 'Ddraig Bach' ('Baby Dragon')
Gibson Les Paul Historic '59
Legra custom-made Les Paul Doubleneck
1967 Shaftesbury LP Black Beauty copy now with Bareknuckle humbuckers and 1959 spec wiring loom.

On my L-05 I haven't found anything to match Newtones - I use a custom set of 12-54 PBs - brighter and fuller than D' Addarios though they don't last quite as long - they also do a doublewound which give a slightly darker sound which are also great - I like Martins too but think they work better with the rosewood than the mahogany (J-09 ). I have been experimenting with some Dean Markley strings (12-54 PB) which I also like and again last longer but still not quite there...obviously these are all very personal musings :doh

Pastor H,
Sit down, get cozy...hope you don't have a sermon to get ready for Sunday, because it could take a while; do a search on strings or string choices and the number of posts could be as long as War and Peace!
Yes, a different brand/set of strings can really change a guitar, but James hit it right on--go splurge on 5 or 6...10 different brands and gauges and see what makes your baby sing best for you. It really is eye-opening and worth the search. For what it's worth, I play mostly in altered tunings and almost exclusively use GHS True Mediums. But I do carry D'Add. EJ 17s as an extra.
ALSO-- Elderly has D'Add sets on sale (their 14 most popular, including 16, 17s and I believe Bluegrass)=15% off!

Currently they ship with EXPs, before that it was cleartones, before that Elixers, and before that D'Addario J-16's

On my Larrivees I tend to use either Martin Phosphor Bronze SP's or D'Addario EXP-16s.  If you use a heavy flat-pick it might be worth going up to mediums.

Likewise.  I try others but always come back to John Pearse Phosphor Bronze New Mediums (.013 - .055).
If I use lights, I still put a .013 E-string.  My Larrivee OM's seem to come alive w/ mediums...

I agree with trying many. Just make sure you play each set till they wear out.  I have found that new strings generally don't sound as good to me as when they are a few days old. How long they last depends on many factors but mostly it is personal preference.

If this thread goes on long enough, every string under the sun will be recommended which brings me back to my original comment.  :roll

I prefer Elixir polyweb 80/20 bronze ,custom light .011- .052  ,love how they sound ,play and they last so long  :guitar :donut
Larrivee L-03 SP

For my "Amazing Larrivee" I prefer Dean Markley Alchemy Gold Bronze.   For the others see ducks post.
