Unclrob, that's very thoughtful of you but it's really not necessary, (speaking just for myself here).   we are getting upwards of 50 spam attacks daily now.   It's become somewhat of a challenge to get them kicked out before they have a chance to post anything.   Fortunately we have folks like you who alert us as soon as one slips through.  Working together we can keep this place clean.    I do appreciate your offer.   Why don't you just have a cold one for me instead.

Is it not possible to screen applicants before membership. At least the ones with obvious screen names could be weeded out before they get a chance to start posting. Plus maybe a 3 day waiting period or something before a new member is allowed to post. Don't know, just throwing out ideas that might make your job easier.

This option has been considered for a while now. The con to this option is many newbies want their question answered or to get involved right away, and once they do they learn that this is a pretty swell place and they stick around and contribute/get involved. By having a delay we run the risk of losing these.

Once the problem of the spammer gets greater than the sum of this con will be the day something like the suggested is implemented

There is nothing obvious about the names. Sometimes they look legit and they have a lengthy spamming history, other times when the name looks like a spammer with a randomly generated name, they prove to be honest, hard-working Larrivee lovers.
And they do pass a modicum of screening; the graphic image interpretation.
