I just picked up a Bose L1 compact and have spent some time playing through it. Wow! It sounds so much bigger than expected before I tried it at the store. I expected it to sound thin and not have a lot of depth. It surprised me with its big sound for such a small package.

The thing that I like most about it is the tonematch enhancements that make an ordinary mic sound great. I play a Larrivee L03R with an LR Baggs pickup and the sound wasn't quite what I was looking for until I hooked it up to a preamp. You can hook a mixer up to this PA and it works great also.

It is so portable that you can carry the entire PA and your guitar for a one trip gig. It sets up in a minute!

Does anyone else here use Bose? Any tips or suggestions?

I have the L1 Model II with the Tone Engine. The more I tweek things, the more I am liking the system. We are thinking of adding a Compact to play keyboard and Harmonica through. Currently we are running the guitar, tenor guitar, and harmonica into channels 1,2, and 3, while the vocal mics are sent into a small mixer submixed and sent into the stereo channel 4/5.  We are still experimenting with the sub mixing so its too early to comment on how well that is going. I really like the L1 and I think it was the best solution for a trio of old farts, none of which is really in shape for hauling around heavy PA!

I can relate to getting too old and unmotivated to move around a bunch of heavy gear! That alone sometimes took the fun out of gigging. I'm looking forward to it again with such minimal set up!

I`ve used an L1 Model 2 for the last couple of years and I think it`s very best way to amplify an acoustic guitar, it`s not cheap but unsurpassable in getting your guitar into every corner of the gig Cheers, Pete
