David - glad it finally got there safe, and even more glad that you are enjoying it - The strings from the factory are D-Addario EXP-16s, so unless you asked Jim to change them, that should be what you have. A number of people report an improvement when they switch to EJ-16s, not liking the coating, but the guitar will open up nicely in just a few weeks of heavy playing, so I'm just using the EXPs as long as I can and will change to EJs later.  I'll probably have my local tech tweak a couple things for me at the same time now that I've gotten to know her better -

    Today I enjoyed listening to my F-III being played by a long time studio musician. He lives in Nashville but I met up with him in Philly. Anyway, he put it through some different fingerstyles and drop tunings. It sounded...well, real nice.
     He enjoyed it very much and said so many times. Except for once when he reached for a higher fret and the body blocked his hand ;-)

I have to say this hog sounds great, but I am not fully hitting it off with her.  I will give it sometime...

David, your comments are not all that unusual with the FIII.  Give it time and play it a lot.  I think Jim Holler was spot on when he said he would "play the snot out of it".

For example, a low E string fretted at G was initially a dull thud and now has some ring to it.  I think the FIII wood needs a serious wake up call before it gets moving.  Kind of like me before my espresso in the AM!   :tongue:

Question, is the G nut slot tight on yours?  Jim suggested to me today to use 400# sandpaper to carefully enlarge it.

My OM-MT was tight when it was new, it took about 2 months to start loosening up.  If this F-III opens up more and I can put med's on it  :ohmy:

I would have to agree with Roger (we have the same wood combo I believe).  :+1:

I'm not sure which wood combo you have but my IS/RW sings with lights and is overpowered by mediums.  I doubt that will change when she opens up.

I asked Jim Holler to set mine up with a set of medium EXP's (80/20s). I'm having mixed feelings about these mediums so far. Usually I like them on guitars.

Maybe the black patch on the inside.  Have you checked no-one has stolen it?  It affects the guitar in all sorts of terrible ways!

Had enough time yet, David?  How is the FIII settling in for you?

The LS-03R is opening up nicely now according to my ears.  Some long playing sessions are starting to convince that stiff stubborn Italian top to realize its no longer a tree.  Rather, it's beginning to realize it has a higher calling.   :humour:

The notes are getting to have more rosewood depth and piano-like ringing when chords are struck. 

Hopefully you are experiencing good things.
