Forum Guitar III, discussion II - The Wait

I was almost thinking the site wasn't working today...no one has posted yet regarding the FG III

So here's a question for those who will soon be receiving their FG III.  When you first pick up that guitar and play that first note or chord...what will you play?

That thought has crossed my mind a few times.  When I first pick it up I'm going to feel and smell the wood (something about the smell of an acoustic guitar is refreshing to me).  What will I play that first time I pick it up.  I really don't know...I'll just feel something and see what comes out.  Looking forward to seeing what comes out of that first musical experience.

I'm going to pull an E chord in the first position and let all of those open strings resonate. After wiping the drool away I fully intend to noodle with some impromptu blues riffs up and down the neck.

As soon as I'm done I'm going to give that Italian Spruce top a first rate inspection. 

Eventually, I will get around to taking some photos and contributing to the thread someone will undoubtedly create in the Pictures section of this forum.

Finally, the folks at Larrivee are going to get a thank you via Facebook!

  Here is the first song I'll play on my F-III and that may be in Vancouver if John Jr. surprises us. But whenever I get it this will be the first one. It was written by Ray Thomas back in the 60's I believe and recorded b the Moody Blues with Ray singing it.
     He changed a line himself in the song later on so I'll change it also here (just in case you know this one) I believe it is dbirchett(not sure on that) who recorded a cover of this himself and did a very good job of it. Mine will not be as good as his or Ray Thomas' but I do sing it with feelings that are very genuine for my wife and I use my own fingerstyle method of playing it. I think the LS-03 IS/Mh will be perfect for my style of play and this song.

"Crazy Love" Van Morrison

First thing I'll do is make sure the tuners are turned the exact same way to ensure it is in tune.   

Okay, the Intellitouch tuner will get to do its magic and then I will play the basic G chord with a Larrivee flatpick (got 2 of 'em) or maybe the new Larrivee FIII flatpick!  Then do some crosspicking on a simple country tune.

Starting to rev up the excitement in anticipation.

I intend, though, for the LS-03R to be my fingerpicking guitar and the D-18GE and '40 parlor to be the flatpicking choices.

OK......... assuming my F III is ready to play... (that might be an incorrrect assumption)

First I will inspect her from top to bottom / front to back and put it right up to my face to smell the wood.
Second I will tune her up lovingly and strum a few open chords and play a few single notes with bare fingers to see how she sings.
Third, I'll launch into "Frankie Comes To Town" , naturally   

(The little guy spent Sat. night with us and he immediately went to my guitar stand and started bobbing his head up and down and dancing while playing a kazoo)  At 1 year old he's already more musicial than me)

I'd like to play that song at the jam too, if nobody objects.  In fact I'd love some accompaniment.

My first song will likely be "Genesis" by Jorma Kaukonen.  Even the title fits nicely for a new guitar (or a new "anything.)  I usually play it in "B" with a capo, though, so maybe I'll have to play it in "A" this time around.  It would feel weird to throw a capo on for the first tune. 

But I think I'll record it and share if I get a few minutes.  We definitely need to get samples from all of the different wood combos, cutaway/non-cutaway, etc.  Woohoo!

Wow - just as I expected, a very eclectic mix of "first tunes."

Mine will probably be something I'm working on in the present, like Leonard Cohen's "The Partisan," or the standards "Blue Moon" and "What a Wonderful World." But I might have to dig back into my established repertoire for something like "When The Springtime Comes Again" by John Fahey so the guitar doesn't have to listen to me singing for at least the first five minutes of its working life.

( just the way I play them ) Two more are "Blackbird "and "Dust in the Wind". I can play parts of all of them and sometimes when I am playing find myself stuck in them and cannot escape. Wait that might be when I am having a bad dream I am not sure. 
  OK I am going to pot together a montage of all three for the jam. We can all join in. really I am gona do it.

Tad beat me to the punch in the race of sarcasm, I was going to say I would run my FIII through a fuzz pedal and amp and play Metallica's "Enter Sandman".
