Thx for the nice words!

Topo, that is the same pickguard. If John A. still had DeepRiver material, it likely would have been changed, too. But it remains the same, likely for good. I really like the new tuners.. much better. Easy swap.

I've only ever tried a couple of Madagascar RW guitars.  But those L-09s look stunning.  I remember when the 12th Fret had a bunch up on their site...think it was a half dozen...maybe?  They had pictures of several and they went pretty quick if memory serves.  Beautiful red spruce tops, lovely tuners...and the pickguard, well, pickguards are there for one reason if you ask me, to be taken off!

I'd love to try one.

:nice guitar:

Hey all!! Just an update about this fine guitar.

Wow!! Really sounds great. Couldn't be happier. I had it at a music party yesterday and I had a few few friends play it. Sure was nice to hear it from out front! One guy there that as played a lot of guitars in his day said it was one of the top 10 guitars he's played.  I was stunned... but happy !!

Dave, thanks for the update on your guitar. I feel very privileged and proud to own an L-09 MR myself! Next month I'll have had it for a whole year, and I can't believe how much better it's gotten! I just changed the strings today as well as the strings on my H&D TDM Custom - used Newtone mediums - and both guitars sound like a chorus of angels! And as fantastic as my H&D is, I still prefer playing my Larrivée!  :thumbsup

After reading all the posts on how the sound can be improved by changing saddles, I'm contemplating getting a Fossilized Walrus Ivory saddle. Also, Dave, did you notice a big change when you replaced the ebony pins with the bone ones? I'm thinking I might do the same, or maybe even get FWI pins.

I'm a newbie and fairly clueless, but I just got an L03R and the spruce top looks remarkably similar to the "red spruce" discussed here.  It is darker and more richly grained than any other Larries I've seen (prior to the photos in this thread).  Would they dare use this beautiful wood on a "lowly" 03 model?  Did I get really lucky and someone at the factory with a bad hangover put the wrong top on my L03?

Nice, very nice. There is something about Madrose. I picked up a very limited one, a madrose parlor with bearclaw sitka top with 10 appointments, even though it is designated an 09. It is the one I play the most these days, just a delight. The think I love about Larrivee is that they do not rape us over the upcharge for madrose, not like some makers.

If your 03 is an older model it could be aging well and getting a "tan".

:nice guitar: Madrose looks good. I like the tuners also.

Nope, I hope it's not "tanning" that easily or it'll end up with skin cancer--it's brand spanking new (still checking it's born-on date from the factory folks).  Maybe I'll try and post a photo for comparison--it looks exactly like  the photos posted for the MadRose.

pennerblue start a new topic in Larrivee guitars and if you need help with photo's some of us will assist you.     Danny

Thanks for the offer Danny. Apparently newbies can't post photos (according to forum rules).  I'll have to wait until I get upgraded I guess...

Hi all,

This is my first post! I just wanted to chime in here and say that I played dave42's L-09 over the weekend and it "is" one of the top 10 guitars I have ever played. I still cant get that sound out of my head. Like dave said, I have had a lot of guitars pass through my hands and this guitar is just amazing.

I think I am going to buy a Larrivee real soon!

:welcome: PMC There's a lot of nice ones for sale right here on the forum. Keep us posted.   Danny

JR, Yes, the bone pins brightened it up, as expected. I like 'bone tone' rather then 'ebony tone'. I am in no way saying one is right, just what pleases my ears.  But to be fair, the L-09 changed so much, so quickly the first 2 months, it could have been heading the brighter way, anyway! It was an amazing first couple of months.

Folks, PMC is a great person. Great ears for acoustic guitar tone, imho.
:donut :donut2 :donut :donut2

Thx for the nice comments, PMC! Can't go wrong with a 'L' body Larrivee. I know of a D-60 that sounded great, too!

My wife bought this L-09 for me. She really wants me to play the heck out of it. It just may see some gig action! Kinda fancy for me at a gig, but it is really getting a lot of playing time lately.
