I'm debating between picking up the XLR and the PADI...

I've looked at some of the posts on the board, but didn't find a direct answer to my question. Is there a real concern over impedence matching? I've heard from sources concerning the PADI that there are various "boost" settings for different pickups, would this help with impedence matching or does it have any relevance. My situation is this; I can purchase the PADI used for a fairly good price...less than the price of a new XLR.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

JB:

I have a K&K mini equipped guitar and used the PADI for months.  Although there is a impedance mismatch, the PADI worked fine.  it really takes some tweaking however.

However, I always knew that I could do better.  When I finally bought the Pure XLR, it was an immediate improvement in tone and simplicity of use from the very first couple of strums during sound check.

You'll get by just fine with the PADI but spending the extra few bucks for something that is perfectly compatable and simple to use was well worth it for me.

Thanks Mike, that's the straightforward type of answer I'm looking for.

Anyone else care to weigh in?

You're very welcome JB...

By the way, I see you have a Taylor GA4.  The guitar that I am speaking about with the K&K and Pure XLR is a 1996 714 (rosewood/sitka), which is somewhat similar to your Taylor.

DBerch on this forum can also speak about both the PADI and the XLR.  He uses them both extensively.

Best,
Mike
