Why is my email address visible in my profile?

Why is my email address visible in my profile even though I have checked the box that says 'Hide email address from public'?

If you have the box in your profile checked to 'Hide email address from public', your email address will be visible in your profile to you only.  If the box is checked it will show your email address in 'italics ' in your profile.  If the box is checked, only the Administration will be able to see your email address.

The email icon will show up in your posts (under your overall post count) only to you, others can't see this icon or your email address if you have selected 'Hide email address from public' in your profile.
