Built My First

Some of you might remember a couple of months ago my saying I was building a OO size guitar.  Well, it's done and if I do say so it's a corker.  I'm dying to post pic's here to show you all, but if you are interested you can email me at shaw1@vermontel.net. Here's the spec's:  14 1/4" lower bout, 25" scale, 1 13/16" nut, adirondack spruce and Madagascar rosewood, Ivoroid bindings, aged nitro finish, and bone, bone, bone.

I cant imagine holding it!!  Was it a kit, or your whole endeavor?  Inlays too! Do you do wood as a living?  Or is this "just" a sideline?  When it opens up, she is going to sing I'll bet!

Wow folks, thanks so very much for all the kind and supportive words.  Major thanks to Randy for posting the pic's for me.
Naboz, it's built entirely from scratch. I'm a woodworker so I figured (mistake #1)it would be a piece of cake and (mistake #2) that I already had all of the tools :lol:  :lol: ! I've built lots of fancy stuff but none of it ever had to prove itself with sound. :(  

I'm very lucky to live twenty minutes from the Froggy Bottom Guitars www.froggybottomguitars.com and Michael and Andy were there to answer questions along the way.  In fact, Michael gave me the rosewood and said "go build a guitar, have fun."  I had a lot of fun, and I'm gonna keep on going. Thanks again everyone, wish you could all play it.  How about a jam in Vermont?  #2 should be here by October, a slope shouldered 14 fret mahogany dread ala Gibson j45-j50 (I love Gillian Welch, what can I say?)

Bryan,  You can be proud of building a beautiful guitar!  Wow!  You do nice work.  Could this be the beginning of a new career for you?  Keep up the good work and keep showing off the fruits of your labor.

Thank you Bill, I'm just gonna keep building them until someone buys one!  I learned so much on the first, and I'm sure that it is a never ending process of discovery.  I'll probably get one out every 3-5 months for a while and see what happens.  I've been a woodworker for twenty years and nothing can compare.  And I'm already broke all the time so the luthier jokes don't even phase me. :P

What did you use for the finish?

I love the idea of a jam - maybe near Froggy's factory? I think they're near where William Ackerman lives, aren't they?

rwhitted-yes they are pretty close, and they are friends, although I don't know Will Ackerman. Anytime you're in the neighborhood drop me a line!

Gads no! I own three kids, two cars and a house instead.  <_<  In fact, I have yet to hear a Froggy in person, but from what I've heard on Will's albums, they're incredible.

Each year I try to take a road trip to a guitar shop somewhere. There's one in NH - or maybe it's Maple Leaf in VT? - that's pretty good. If I can get up there this year, I'd love to see this one you just made and maybe ask you a few questions about how you did it. It really is impressive looking!

Do you know if Froggy Bottom does tours of any kind? They're kind of a small shop, aren't they?

Sounds great, let me know.  Maple Leaf is a good shop with some beautiful guitars.  Froggy Bottom Guitars is a small 2-3 person shop in the woods of this part of the world.  I learn more in ten minutes just standing there than with all the books I own on the subject.  I can't say enough about those guys and their work.  :)

Bryan, some guy over at Acouctic Guitar Central (see Luthier's Corner section as well as For Sale section) has been trying to find someone to build a guitar for him. He's not getting the type of interest he'd hoped for, it seems. This might be interesting reading for you.....I was seeing lutherie in a new light after some of the responses.....I'm far from the techie type, by the way.....
