Todd, I am curious. How many of the guitars you have bought and sold during the last year would be welcome back, given the opportunity?

to be COMPLETELY honest with you .....this is the only one -    I know most of you don't believe me, but have you ever owned a guitar that felt like it played itself and you couldn't do anything wrong?  The only other guitar I've owned that had the same effect on me was my last electric (23 years ago)  an American BC Rich neck through, rock maple mockingbird ala Rick Derringer style......that was some intstrument as well.   I sold the 512 a month ago to Jason because I was being swooned by the Cedar OM I just sold to Matt (didymus)   As excellent as that guitar was, it didn't have the upper midrange "snap" that I love.   this one does.....

It just goes to show that sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side of that hill! Glad the 512 was able to come back!

I feel the same way about my D-09, which I've had just over a year now. It's not the easiest playing guitar I've ever had in my hands, but definitely one of the best sounding. I know a guy who's excellent with setups (better than any shop guy in my area). I'm going to have him do some tweaking to dial it in.

We have all obviously noticed that a lot of guitars pass through your hands.  Have you ever done an analysis of what it costs you, say each year?  Like if you buy for $1600 and sell for $1400 you are down $200.  Then if you buy for $1200 and sell for $1500 you are back ahead by $100.

Maybe you are sampling all of those guitars and actually making a little money for the privilege.  Or maybe it is costing you a bundle.  It would just be interesting to calculate.

I'm up quite a bit.....and having fun doing it.   I only buy ones that I know I can get my $$ back out of because I can't afford it otherwise......I live very simply above my business and have no dependents.  I've given up performing for the most part, so my "horse trading", as Ricks puts it, is designed to help make my car payment......I used to make my car payment and insurance and gas with my performing money....that's how I justified buying a new car every two years!

And, the 512 has "dropped" another Goodall in it's wake.....I think that's the third time.    Just goes to show that it doesn't matter what it says on the headstock.....each builder hits "the nail on the head" once in a while.....
