Has anyone had a chance to try ( or own) one of the Beard - Gold Tone Resonators? I am getting very curious about the all metal round neck model (PB -GRE). Looks like a halfway decent instrument for a very attractive price.

I have the standard mahog square neck - great instrument. Gold Tone puts together a very smooth sweet instrument, and the Beard components (nut, bridge, and cone) really make them fine. They get a lot of respect on reso boards. If you order direct from Beard, Paul hisself does the work on your guitar.

I tried a round neck maple delux at Appalachian Bluegrass.    This was the first low cost resonator I've played that actually had characteristic sound I was looking for.   Seemed like a great deal.   I'd be curious to hear the metal body as well.

I have the solid-body lap steel.  It's a good instrument, with a great tone.  However, I've got it in for repairs right now because one of the tuners stripped.  I think they may skimp a little bit on some of their parts, which is presumably what keeps the price down.

The Beard models are probably more upscale, as el guitana suggests.

I bought a Beard Gold Tone Mahogany roundneck from the Podium recently and am very happy with It.
They get theirs directly from Beard. Facing the instrument, shine a light through the left sound screen
and you should see a genuine Beard setup sticker along with the date that It was setup.

hi fergy I am in the same boat,I would like to know if goldtone is the best of the imports.I have heard good things about the rogue res. from musician friend but they seen almost too cheap to be taken seriously but I could be wrong;also there is liberty guitars which seem to get good reviews. One last thing,is it best to save up for a National if possible.

Hey check out my pics from the riverwalk blues fest Ernie southern put on a really good show and I can't forget corey harris

I love my Gold Tone Beard sq neck. That said, I think the Wechter/Scheerhorn gets about equal enthusiasm on the reso boards.

I would steer you away from Liberty.  I think the Gold Tone would be a great entry model.

Ditto on Liberty

I was able to try a National at GC this weekend, it was a mahogany, but really sounded dead. I'd love to find one of the Gold Tones and try it out. I think I have my wife convinced that we need it for the sake of our marriage if nothing else. Thanks for all the replies.
