Hi there, I'm new to this forum, but I wanted to ask you guys (and gals) which model you think I would enjoy from the Larrivee lineup.

I have my 714 listed over at the acousticguitarforum.com classifieds for trade or sell.  I would like to trade for a rosewood/spruce larrivee or taylor.  I don't have a lot of experience with Larrivee, but I have tried an LV-09 and the lead guitarist in my band plays an OM-09.  His is a bit older and sounds really good.  The live sound, I am not concerned with, as I can deal with that, but the recording sound is what I am looking for.  I play mostly percussive rhythms and feel that rosewood will be more suitable for that.  We record the acoustics through a mic, and his larivee sounds phenomonal, which is why I'm contemplating the Larrivee, but also keeping an 814 in mind as well, because I do like taylor guitars.  Here is a link to some of our material for your listening pleasure.  They are pretty indicative of my style, especially the opening of "little sister" which is me and the vocalist alone before the other stuff kicks in.

Thanks for any input on this, and if anyone is interested in buying or offering a trade for my guitar, feel free to email me at walnut714@comcast.net  :GRN>

Nice music by the way.  I find your percussive technique the same as my style of play.  I have the same right hand....  I am personally a bit heavier handed, well at least compared to your song Little Sister.  I find that my 1996 Rosewood/Sitka 714, which is essentially an 814 due to the sitka top, handles it all pretty well.  However, there are those time where I overdrive the top and have to consiously back off.  In the Larrivee line, the L-09 would be the equivalent in terms of tone and body size.  I would be concerned that I'd overdrive the OM-09...but that's me.  My 714 has aged beautifully and I am in the camp that believes the best Taylors were made between 1995 and 1999.  Perhaps you could look for a nice used Taylor.  To my ears, the L-09 sounds almost indentical to my '96 714.  But not the same as a current model 814.  I think Taylor lost some tone over the years.

So my take, and I am not as wise on Larrivee's as many in this forum, is the L-09 or 1996-1999 Taylor rosewood/sika GA.  But I think the Larrivee will have a bit more headroom.

I would be interested to hear the replies to this thread as well.
