Hi,

I have several Larrivee guitars I want to sell, but I don't know how to price some of them. For instance, I have an all solid walnut SD-60 and I can't find a similar guitar that has been sold or listed on Reverb and I don't know where else to look.

Is there a place I can go to find approximate values? Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Kevin

Used valuation will largely be dictated by two things; level of finish (satin vs gloss) and ornamentation (extra inlay). While something like a walnut top might be an upgrade in terms of catalog pricing, it doesn't have a big impact on used prices. So, you can generally go by used pricing on similar models, despite differences in woods.

Also, two things to consider. People ask whatever they want on Reverb and some people list instruments they don't really want to sell, just in case they get a crazy price for it. Use the used price directory to get real pricing.
Also, rarity doesn't have much influence on value because Larrivee makes so many variations. You can start by asking a couple hundred more for more rare wood combos, but what often happens is those guitars are harder to sell because spruce+mahogany and spruce+rosewood were the main combos for decades so many people are scared to venture from that.

I would check the sold listings on eBay and Reverb.  You can also use searchtempest.com to check Craigslist and Facebook listings.

I think Larrivee has used at least three types of Walnut, Black, Peruvian and Austrian. Some of the Austrian Walnut had quite a dramatic figure which might push the price up.

You might be able to overcome some of the concerns about how an unusual wood combo sounds with a well recorded demo.

Good Luck!

I would always recommend getting multiple appraisals or bids to determine what your guitar might be worth on the open market.  Larrivee for whatever reason generally doesn't have great resale value.  Unless you have something that is unique, limited edition, or brazilian and there's also a buyer out there willing to pay your price.  Here are three sources I've used:

1)  https://www.joesvintageguitarsaz.com/free-appraisal/  He will provide a free appraisal, if you send him pictures and description. Seemed like an honest guy when I used him.

2) Guitar Center:  They will generally give you 40% of what they deem is market value (Retail) of what they think they can sell it for and still make a profit.  You can then do the math and determine what you would list it for.

3) ChatGPT: Pretty impressed with the honest answers I got back.  Put in a description, add some pictures, and ask it the question you are looking to answer.
