Anyone else enjoying their vinyl collection? I have an estimated 1500 albums remaining from my peak with around 3500. When you eliminate that many, you find yourself wondering where the heck did that one go?

Well, you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose and while you can't pick your friend's nose, you can pick through his records.

All the vinyl went several years ago.  Now, most of the cd's we have are in boxes somewhere because we have them digitized and available on phones, iPads, computers, etc.  The two things I truly miss are listening to a well sequenced album all the way thru and those big *censored* speakers I used to have.  Soundbars and bluetooth speakers are ok, but those 12" woofers, 5" mids, and tweeters were so much better.  Of course my hearing was better then too. Oh, a third thing...  the album covers.

I'm a dinosaur. 

I'm surrounded by books, albums, CDs, stereo components, amps and speakers ... and guitars. I don't do much streaming except using my phone and a bluetooth speaker to listen to Pandora on the patio or veranda. The one thing I miss is a CD player in the car. I can see no ashtray but no CD player? That's just wrong. Pandora and Sirius are no improvement on my own selections.

My wife talked me into getting this Honda Passport. She's five foot nothing and likes the size of it. It's way too fancy for my liking. Too many bells and whistles and not the kind I'd want. It senses things around it and not always in good ways. Telling you to brake, flashing and shuddering, when you come around a curve and it senses the vehicle in the next lane as being in front of you. You have to remember to disable the stop/shutoff feature as it defaults to on when you start up. For as much gas as that might save, it has to more than make up for it in battery life reduction. It also automatically slows down in cruise if the vehicle in front is going slower. PITA. It's made for drivers that are asleep at the switch, I guess. My wife loves it but I do 90% of the driving. Oh well.

It's OK; good enough for me at my age, but as Eded noted above, I really miss the album covers- the artwork and the liner notes and especially the credits.
It's the trade off for having an entire library of music at my fingertips and on a moment's notice.
Seems I'm forever engaged in some kind of trade off or another.

That's life. They can tear my albums from my cold dead hands. I've never been what you'd call an audiophile, however. I'd rather have lots of great albums to play and a decent player to play them on than spend all the money on systems. I remember loving songs played on a radio the size of an electric shaver. As far as the format goes, I'm not sure if I can tell records from CDs, quality wise, but there is something tactile about vinyl and the album covers that they come in, that just feels better.

I've got a good friend in the neighborhood in his early 60s (I'm in my 40s).  He still sits around "listening to records."  When I go over there sometimes, he'll put one on at max volume and try to talk over it. 
 
It always kind of cracks me up. 

He still has all the records from when he was a kid. 

I think records are cool as tangible things, and they do sound different, but the convenience of having the world's music in one's pocket at any given is, IMO, a genuine improvement in the course of human affairs.

I guess but I only want the music I like and I can only listen to so much so all the music in the world is a bit of overkill. I do stream a bit. I'll use Pandora and a bluetooth out on the patio. Did last night and it worked fine. Besides, MP3's just don't sound as good as either vinyl or discs. Not to me anyway. It's especially evident on music that was produced before everything became digital. Again to me.

.....I sure do. I still have over 200 vinyls, some highly collectable and in mint condition. ACDC, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Creedence, Dire Strait, etc, etc. I have 2 Sansui Hi Fi system with a Akai Reel to Reel.

I miss my big Sansui stereo amp. Funny thing, I can't remember what happened to it. 

I decided today, that I'm going through my CD collection and take a bunch to the used Book/Record/CD store and trade them in for some new stuff. Well, probably new old stuff. If I haven't listened to it for a year and probably never will, that is.

When I was a kid in the early 80s there were lots of records around our house.  To me, they were a PITA because it seemed like the player was always breaking down, needed a new needle, or one of the records was scratched, ruining the entire listening experience.  When cassettes came along, it struck me as a huge leap forward in the right direction.  When CDs came along, even better! 

I don't consider myself an audiophile or expert, but I've LOVED music my entire life (like everyone else here).  I don't really get the big deal with records.  I know it sounds *different*, but does it sound better?  To each his own.  For my part, music via a good set of earbuds played on my iPhone sounds GREAT to me.  YMMV.

I do think vinyl can sound better, particularly for material that was mixed for vinyl. There's a softening in the areas we hear as "harsh", the high frequencies come out in a gentle way, and a lot of low level information is revealed. It's a really music-friendly medium.

Tape always bothered my because it was mushy sounding. Super compressed and lacking in crispness. Early CDs the opposite, the medium was no longer softening the sound so they were very aggressive and thin sounding. Remasters started addressing this and now digital music is handled differently. The sound is actively softened though equipment and software. The most commonly used studio vocal mics today are based in 1950s and 60's technology. Our ears tend to prefer that softening, which is why people still like vinyl.

Man, that's wild. I don't hear any of that stuff and couldn't pick it out in a million years.  I just like the music.  I think when it comes to listening to music, I'm like ducktrapper when it comes to guitar strings.  Six new ones!  Just give me some music in some form and I'm good.
