The name Jeff Beck might not mean a lot to non-guitarists, but beyond all of his early "British Blues" breaking work, his album "Blow By Blow" was simply breakthrough brilliance

Also - his work on "Superstition"; there's a whole back story there that winds up with Wonder effectively gifting "'Cause We've Ended As Lovers" to Beck.

R.I.P.

Jeff was, and still is, and always will be, my favourite electric guitarist by a 'country mile'. I always tell people that he's so good, he makes me laugh out loud one minute and cry the next. It got so bad at one point that I couldn't be bothered to listen to anyone else as I just heard a bunch of meaningless notes that always sounded the same. Every note he played had it's own 'personality'. Managed to see him last summer here in Birmingham, UK (with Johnny Depp!) RIP JB.

Not bragging but I'm old enough to have bought his first album "Truth" in 1968 which I probably still have around here somewhere. I've tried hard and failed to copy his licks off that album, but they're still fun to attempt. I also caught him live in concert and still have the "Jeff" logo hat.

The songs with Rod Stewart were my favorite. Just pure fun and sassy rock and roll. They could have been a monster band eclipsing "Led Zeppelin" had Rod stayed, IMHO.

Sad to see the ancient Rock Gods pass on. Procol Harem's Gary Brooker r.i.p a few months ago.

My dad introduced me to Jeff Beck when I kid. One of the best ever. Thankfully his music will live on!

Yes, Jeff Beck was one of the great ones
Going to quickly and gone too soon
I have been listening to blow by blow since it came out
What's 75 I believe
I still listen to it on a regular basis it's brilliant
RIP, Jeff

Just to add and beat this to death, I guess. But I was remiss in not mentioning that Beck guest starred on Roger Water's "Amused to Death" back in the 90's. Youtube gives us the whole album at this link

Beck kinda lost me when he started specializing in jazzy all instrumental albums. Technical virtuosity aside, an album of guitar solos is a tough sell - there's only so much "noodling" I can take in one sitting. Which I guess is another way of saying I liked him best when he was playing actual kick butt rock and roll lead guitar in traditional rock songs with a vocalist.

Rodger Waters' dystopian lyrics aren't for everyone, but they're easily ignored. The "Amused to Death" album features some creative "Pink Floyd" type production design, excellent backing vocals, and tons of atmosphere. Plus, imho, his best ever rock guitar work. If you somehow missed this album, it's well worth the listen.
