There's a headline I bet you thought you'd never read. Satanism is so tired and ridiculous in rock music and seeing the disgusting Sam Smith getting peed on is just so edgy but ... brought to you by Pfizer?  :laughin:

By the way, now some woman named Bouncy or something is the greatest singer ever.  :yawn

Does anyone actually watch this crap? It's been years decades since I have.   :guitar

The short answer: I can't recall ever watching the Grammys.

FWIW, I googled the top 100 Grammy winners and compared that list with the top 100 Juno winners and discovered I listen to a lot more music from Canadian Artists than I do American Artists.

I think the last album I bought, by someone who might be considered a new artist, was by Jason Isbell and that was a few years back. I'm waiting for something new by Gillian Welch. Hey, get offa my lawn!

I watched Gutfeld last night and I just thought the connection between Pfizer and Satan was hilarious.

I don't know who Sam Smith is.  Never heard of him till now.  Looks like some lame antics by people who have very little left to actually shock people with.

Oh exactly. About as shocking as spilled milk. They think they're being edgy, however. If they really want to be radical and edgy, they should come out as conservative and pro life. That'll shock the blue hairs on Tik Tok (whatever that is.)
By the way, you don't want to know who Sam Smith is. They showed a bit of his latest video featuring ridiculous costumes and self abasement. I'd say **** on him but ... they do.  :roll

Yes, the only truly shocking thing in these times would be orthodoxy.  And I have no intention of looking up Sam Smith's music.

I watched Gutfeld last night

Who?  Oh, that network.  No wonder I don't have any idea who he is.

If it hadn't come up here, I wouldn't have any idea who was involved (other than the sarcastic "unknown blues player wins song of the year" posts friends have posted on social media).  I just went and watched the Sam Smith video...  Good production.  Reasonably good music, by modern pop standards.  Subject matter...  meh.  No more shocking than Madonna, any of the rap stuff, or Alice Cooper.  Hard to remember when our parents said our music was crap, but they did.  Hell, they thought the Beatles were going to ruin the world as we knew it and Elvis before that.  Some of what makes it popular among kids is that older folks are so "disturbed" by it.  Like many here. I don't watch any of the award "dog and pony shows".  Listening to some new music stops me from being a curmudgeon and sometimes helps me not miss gems that come out.

#1 late night show. Irreverent and often quite funny. The rest of the late night hosts have turned into woke lecturers. Their audiences no longer laugh but just clap hands in approval of the talking points. Ask Seinfeld or Chappelle. Comedy is dead on the left. Way too dangerous.

I'm not easily shocked and wasn't. Urinating on the "artist"? I'd like to do it myself. Oh I used to be disgusted ....

Ha ha ha.

Watch Colbert and tell me I'm wrong. His audience, still masked, applauds wildly but never really laughs. Remember when Letterman used to be funny? He hilariously made fun of Clinton and Bush and never held back. Then along comes Obama and poor Dave ... made fun of Clinton and Bush and became a bitter old man. It was kind of sad to watch. Gutfeld is back to making fun of everyone and everything. A few too many poopy jokes for my liking but his co-hosts, Tyrus and Kat, are both smart and hilarious. Tyrus is terrific.

My wife watches Gutfeld and sometimes I'll catch bits here and there.  It can be quite funny.

I DVR it and fast forward if the poopy jokes get overdone. The Canadian trans shop teacher with the huge fake jugs gets a lot of attention.  :roll

Him: I really like Beyonce.

Her: Whatever floats your boat.

Him: No, that's buoyancy.

She does look like she'd be quite buoyant.  :whistling:

Funny how Pfizer and Satan didn't get much of a response. Maybe if I'd said, I dunno,  Trump and Satan?   :laughin:

Same.  As I'm sure is the case with many here, as I've gotten older I get less and less interested in pop culture.  I'm to the point now where I honestly don't recognize many of the faces (isn't always just faces featured) on the mags at the check-out line.  And it somehow makes me feel better, like I'm doing something right with my life to avoid all the bread and circuses the zeitgeist has on offer for me.

I know this weekend is the big Superbowl game.  Some years go by and I not only don't know who the halftime show "entertainment" was, but I don't even know what teams competed.  It's my favorite night of the year to go out to dinner because the restaurants are empty and quiet.

duck: I do remember when Letterman was funny.  When I was a kid back in the 80s late night shows were really good.  Carson and Letterman were great.  They were both left-leaning, and so was/is almost everyone in entertainment, but politics didn't get in the way of humor, where now politics has ruined everything.  I say the humor and laughter is hollow because now there is a script that cannot be strayed from, there are people to be loved and despised (cancelled), and there are only a certain amount of topics on the approved list to choose from, etc.  There is no integrity in comedy anymore because anything manipulated like that becomes dishonest and disingenuous by nature, and for comedy to carry any real meaning, first and foremost it has to be honest.

Agreed. I only catch news reports of things like the Grammys and Oscars. I still watch the Super Bowl but have had no interest in the half time shows for many years. I truly believe that Obama's election destroyed Letterman's and likely a few others' careers. Now there are things you simply can't joke about and people you cannot make fun of or mock. That's not funny! I see Roseanne Barr has returned for a stand up comedy special where she promises to be more offensive than ever! I might try to watch that.   :laughin:

I still see Pfizer sponsoring Satanic rituals at the Grammy Awards (as lame as it apparently was) as an interesting sign of the times. I first mistyped that as sigh of the times and maybe that's more accurate.   :beer

The landscape changed with Obama's election, and it was strange to see the worshipful manner in which people like Letterman, et al, behaved toward him.  On several occasions I've seen grown men get all misty-eyed while talking about Obama.  Very strange.  Stranger still was how the election of Trump seemed to dismantle everything that remained.  And now here we are in a very, very bizarre time in American history.

Amen to that. What did Hunter S. Thompson say? "When the going gets strange, the strange get going"? Or maybe it was weird and not strange. He also said, "If the sh*t fits, wear it." That one made me laugh.
