So far looks like what I thought.  We are an aging forum.  Perhaps we need a marketing push to draw folks to the forum?  Thoughts?  Don't worry about it?

I was in my late 20's when I joined, now in my early 40's.  I am not sure how I found out about this forum in the first place.  That being said, as you can see from my post count I rarely contribute over the last decade and a half.  I probably went years without checking in at all.  I have been more active recently due to the Forum VI build.  I guess I am finding other sources for my time usage and to answer questions about Larrivee guitars.
J.

I believe forums in general draw an older crowd.  This seems to be the case over at the AGF as well.   This is probably because younger people didn't grow up using forums, and the format moves too slowly for them.

HEY, ............... you kids , get off my lawn !                   :humour:

Technically, I'm 67, but my brain thinks I'm still in my 30's.

My brain says I'm 21.....my body says 2013 and failing apart.

I responded to the poll.  You wanna know how old I am ?    I was born BEFORE ROCK AND ROLL. !   :nana_guitar

I joined the forum at age 52 and two years after I bought my second Larrivee and I agree with Silence Dogood; I think forums attract and appeal to an older audience. Our sweet spot should be the 40 to 60 year age group if we want to attract more members. I also belong to the Martin Forum and visit the Acoustic Guitar Forum but rarely post there.

From 2004 until Jim Holler closed up shop in 2018, I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time at Trinity Guitars and play a lot of different guitars including Larrivee, Martin, Taylor, Gallagher and others. Over the years, I have been drawn to Larrivee's Parlor and L bodies, their wood selection and quality which was the appeal of the Forum VI model. I was around throughout the Forum III Build and based on my experience watching that process and with the end result of my custom 12 string, I had zero concerns about ordering a Forum VI. Reviewing the reactions of the players who already have received theirs, I am confident that I'll be happy with mine too.

Yeah, this.  Lots of younger folks don't even use Facebook anymore.  There are newer platforms that they prefer for various reasons.  Many have no idea what a forum is, or what Usenet was (yeah, still is, but...), or BBS's (anyone else remember dialup BBS's?).  For a lot of folks, regardless of the information to be gained here, it's going to be tough to compete with a platform where you can point your phone and tap the screen and pretty much instantly upload a pic or video or have instant 2 (or 10) way video chats.  Not a knock of the forum, just a statement about the advancement of technology.

FYI: I'm in the 40-50 range.  I've been reading guitar-related forums for about twenty years now.  Many of the people involved then are still involved now, and as a result they are older and wiser.  I have found the content of forums to be less emotional and the posts more thoughtful as the main demographic for them has moved along with them and gotten older (and wiser) along the way.   Reading the various forums has become a daily delight for me.  I would genuinely miss them if they were no longer there.

I'm not surprised that most of us are 40 and up.  When I was raising my family I wouldn't have had time for a forum, if they even existed.  I think I joined in 2006 or so when the last 2 of my kids were in college.  I've really enjoyed the comraderie of this forum, lots of great folks. I

This poll made me look back at when I started playing at the age of 7. That was 64 years ago and still going. Not as strong or as long but still love playing as always.

Younger folks are using forums but they're more into places like reddit, rather than individualized forums. The advantage being, you can jump from topic to topic without needing separate memberships and such.
I don't care for the real busy discussion places as everyone is a bit more anonymous and the it's harder to gauge the value of the advice you're getting vs a small forum where you can get a sense of the experience and background of the people you're talking to.

Yeah, my kids do stuff like tumblr and discord.  They say Facebook is for old people.  I'm not sure the 30 and under crowd would even think to look for a forum like this. Then again, maybe they also can't afford nice guitars yet.

LOL - I hit that Beatle song # earlier this week (and on my b-d my wife pulled up the tune and played it for me on her phone).

Agree with this. I suppose (who knows?) that for a lot of young(er) people, taking time to compose and write a post like we do around here might feel foreign to them - even like a waste of time when they can post a video, etc.

Based on my post count, I obviously post around here way too often (unclrob and ducktrapper have me beat - I don't know about anyone else!) - although it's been much less than I did years ago. The Forum VI got me popping in and posting more regularly again.

I hate to say it but Taylor kind of won the marketing of "expensive acoustic" world in the 90's to younger audiences.
