Newbie with a newbie Larrivee

Hello all,
  I've been a long time fan of Larrivees', especially the bling and exotic wood models but never had a chance to play one. So, when this one popped up on my local craigslist, I was on it. Needless to say, this one came home with me.
  The seller had it listed as a LV10kk and said it was from 2001. After putting the serial number in the serial lookup it appears to be a OMV10kk produced in Oct of 1999.
  I think I got a good deal on it but I'm not up to date on the value of used Larrivees.
Anyway, It's pretty much mint condition and plays and sounds exquisite.
I'd appreciate any other info you might know about this beauty.

Welcome to the Larrivee Forum, Nightbird, and what a splendid guitar you have there.
This guitar showed up here a week or so ago and garnered some eye-popping attention from the Koa and bling fans here; self included.

Welcome to the forums. Larrivees from that era are great. Built well and they've had time to really settle in (which koa needs). Keep it at the right humidity and she'll serve you well.

I remember seeing a listing somewhere for an all Koa Larrivee Dreadnaught from 1999 that claimed it had come from a "special log" of Koa.  Can't find the listing now but I am pretty sure it was on Reverb.  It caught my eye as I have an all Koa OMV-09 from 1999.  It's pretty but yours is gorgeous!

Yes, you are correct. We harvested a log in Hawaii around late 98/early 99 that yielded hundreds, if not a thousand, sets of the most incredible KOA to date. No argument. Jean still talks of the folklore today. You will never see anything of this quality in large numbers ever again. The 2000 NAMM show we took over 300 guitars that were all Koa.  We even made the booth out of Koa. Parts of that booth we still use today. Other parts were cut down in the early 2010's to make bindings for body and fingerboard custom run guitars.We still have pieces. We repeated the 2000 NAMM show in 2001 and this time brought the all Koa Ukuleles. It was a fun time for instrument making. Nothing too crazy in the world had happened yet.

Wow, what a cool story.  I'd love to hear the story of how Jean found the Brazilian rosewood for the special 1998 run of D09 and D10 Flying Eagles. Maybe the subject of a future thread....😎

Just out of curiosity, what would it cost to have Larrivee build a guitar like that?

We don't discuss new prices usually, but it'll cost you about 3 to 4x the amount of a used one for features like that.

Okay, I get that. So what do these go for on the used market? I spent some time looking on the net and can't find one example for sale or a sold price.

The gentleman I bought this guitar from said he found it at Buffalo Bros in 1999 or 2000. He told me it was in a glass display case when you entered the store and he was amazed when he saw it. He said he somewhat remembers a price tag of low to mid $6,000's and he paid around $ 5,700.  That was over 20 years ago so I can only imagine what a new one cost.

edit: - now confirmed - started November 22, 1999 this is an OMV-10KK with Anna on the headstock and vine inlay

  WOW!!!! That is stunning!!! Other than Anna on the headstock, they are twins.
