That was a great casual interview.  Looked like you were working on his high end Yamaha, LL500 I'm guessing.  I happen to have one of those, and they are the hand crafted made in Japan models, a great guitar.

:+1: thank you for posting. Finally get to see "the Master" at work. Cheers

Very good, Rob.
I will save this for the next time I run across someone shopping for their first guitar. Or their second guitar.
Or needing some repair work done. Or asking about string choices.

Great eye!!!!It is an LL500.It needed more work as it play's kinda stiff but since he is planning to sell it I told him to just get the frets dressed, drop down to 11's and let me adjust the action. He's looking for a Larrivee after playing mine but no dealer in town I think the closest is over hundred mile's away.

He shouldn't have any trouble selling it.  They are very rare, and sound is amazing, very articulate.  I actually found 2 of them on Craigslist 12 years ago,  paid $400 for one and $500 for the other.  They were both mint, I ended up selling one of them 5 years ago for $1500.  Still have the other one.  I just wish they were 1 3/4 nut inside of 1 11/16.

That was a great interview, Rob.  I would definitely want to send my guitar your way for work given your expertise.

Nice interview Rob, maybe the mods could pin the link at the top of this forum for future reference.

Thanks for the support. One problem I installed a set of Fralin pu's in a guitar and the client call and said the volumn controls don't don't work so its coming back to be fixed. After hanging up I stepped outside for some sun closed my eye's and picture the work then it hit me,"I'm a f****ing idiot I forgot to solder the 3rd lug to ground".Now I'm feeling like so an idiot.I'll fix of coarse but such a stupid mistake.

Go easy on yourself, we all make them.
I rarely made any mistakes when I was young, now I almost expect something is going to go wrong.

Heres another BIG TIP-If you ever need a refret don't bring it someone who is going to use stupid glue to install them I have had 3 very nice guitars come across my bench with stupid glue installs and all three had frets that either where lifting on the ends or had the middle of the fret barely pressed in place.Since I refuse to redo someone else bad work for crap money and done in a day or two I had to refuse to do there work. :yak: Find someone who will do them right and by this I mean old school.

Okay, Rob.  I will tuck that piece of knowledge away for the future.  Thanks.

Older thread, but because someone linked to it from a recent post, it's worth pulling back up.

Great stuff, Rob; as always, I learned a few things! Thanks! Twenty minutes well spent!

(Also clicked a thumbs up on it as well!)
