Regarding the course and the videos people are posting....  I think it's hard for some of us to remember how big of a deal it is to be able to even play simple chords.  And then when you see someone truly great at guitar, the whole things begins to seem like a super power.  I'm a lifelong mediocre guitarists and am sometimes still absolutely amazed that I can play at all.

I get that but I just think if you're going to share an accomplishment, even if it's a very simple one, you should make sure you've got it down. Heck, I'm somewhat reluctant to share recordings that I think are pretty good. Times have changed but back when I was more of a beginner, I'd work really hard to get a song down pat and then go perform it at a coffee house before a very friendly and forgiving crowd. If I got nervous and screwed something up, they were generally very kind. Often kinder than I deserved. I try to pass that kindness on. I click on some of these videos, if it's good I'll say so but more often than not I shake my head and I don't say anything.
Of course, now even very accomplished artists put out expanded CDs with blown outtakes and such. I don't get that either. I don't want to know how the sausage is made.

I'll never forget my time as a beginner. The sore fingers, frustrations. I don't know how many times the word 'quit' flashes up in my mind. No internet like today. Yes, how grateful am I to be still playing today.

If you want to feel like a beginner, try learning something new I guess. Funny thing. I was going through an early lesson in this course covering shuffle/boogie rhythms which I've been playing with ease for years or so I thought. However, one of them was so dang simple it plum evaded me. Just alternate picking E - 6th string Open, A - fifth string Open, G (6 - 3rd fret) G# (6 - 4th fret) over and over. My brain wanted to make it more complicated and it would have been easy to skip it or make it more complicated but I've been playing this over and over for several days until I got it down. Never skip the difficult even if it's really simple.  :beer

I know what you mean. I've been learning 'Rumba Flamenco' basic right hand strum/moves. Simple as. You think I can stay focus? So frustrating.

Sometimes I think the reason jazz was invented is because a lot of guys, like me, just can't play simple repetitive things.  :laughin:

Always a good place to be. I'm with you there. Then again .... maybe I'm exactly as bad as I actually am.   :?

Another thing amazing to me: while drowning in a sea of musical possibilities, I sometimes find it hard to try something new to play or learn.  Anyone else encounter this?

There's million diversions out there. Oh look! A cat video!  :beer

Justin (of Justin Guitar tutorial web site) is teaching himself to play left handed, and reacquainting himself with the struggles of a beginner.  I've declined in skill over the last 4 years for lack of commitment.  In my heart I'm still a guitar player, but not according to time spent with the instrument in my hands.  I'm just tired.

Life gets in the way.  I support a large family and often times at day's end I just want to get some sleep.  I used to be a better player too.  Priorities!

Very talented, I think he is Aussie if it is the same Justin we are talking about.

I believe I'm a better guitar player today than I have ever been. Imagine if I tried harder. I just don't play enough which is why I thought a course might help.
