Anyhow, I was at Guitar Tex today playing a Larrivee when someone said "Hey Mike!".
You will recognize the guitar, I am sure.

Me three! Very nice.

Oh, oh !
I'm going to be in Cypress, Tx. in a couple of weeks, hmmmm, maybe I should take a drive to Guitar Tex ?
What did you think of that guitar Mike?

It was a good day to be at Guitar Tex. I got to try the C-03 TE and tho I am not an expert about 12 fret guitars, here are the observations.

The TE is a nice guitar, and I am mostly an L-body guy, so it felt and sounded familiar. The sound is that of an L-03 rosewood. (edit - I said Tommy's original C-10 was Brazilian, but I was mistaken. See J.M. Larrivee post below)

I played the C-03 for maybe 30 minutes. The C-03 sits well on the right leg, and both hands are shifted over to the right a bit, altho one does not really notice that. One effect is that the right picking hand is a tiny bit more vertical, and I found myself palm muting three strings instead of just two, which is very cool. My left arm didn't feel cramped or anything. The cutaway does provide good access above the 12th fret, useful mostly for the first three strings. Plus it looks good.

Is it worth the money? I think the price is fair for a new rosewood 12 fret Larrivee L-body with florentine cutaway. I like it, and it would be interesting to have a mahogany 12 fret L-body.

No sooner had I put it back on it's hangar than Gus Wanner walks in. Rockysdad may have met him. Gus is a local pro and used to work at Guitar Tex. First guitar he played was the C-03. Gus has long nails and fingerpicks a lot more aggressively than I do, so I got to hear the guitar at a higher volume. Sounded good. Gus commented the sound was a bit more wet (harmonics), tho with the typical Larrivee balance (Gus gigs with an L-03). Maybe that is a 12th fret effect. To me it sounded like typical Larrivee rosewood.

The second guitar Gus played was a new Martin 00-17 Authentic 1931. You could buy a nice used car for less than what the 00-17 costs. The difference in tone was staggering, no shimmer, and each string was true to it's own note. Woody.

Just to be clear, Tommy's original C-10 is East Indian Rosewood.

And I am happy to be corrected. Thanks.

Didn't realised it was a 12 fret cutaway. I love 12 frets.

And if you do, you should PM me a day or so ahead of time.
We can meet up at the store whether or not the TE guitar is still there, since Guitar Tex is so close to I-10.

Well, you could always keep your eye out for a "for sale" Larrivee Forum III.
They were LS bodies, many of them made, in hog or RW, and all were 12 fret.
You maybe already knew that, tho. I played Danny's Forum III awhile back. It was cool.
