After 25 years, I'm still pretty much just a chord player, and I'm ok with that.  Playing and singing songs (I'm a better singer than guitarist) and messing around with chords has never gotten old to me. I'm sure some of you could play circles around me asleep, but I just love the simple stuff.  To me, it's just a blessing to be able to play a little.  What about you?

I love playing rythem guitar.I play in a duo and will almost always play a different voiced chord then then my partner.Give's us a really big sound.I also have a friend that everyone calls the chord man, plays incredible jazz voice's even when he sits in with our hack duo.I don't have any idea how to upload anything but if you go to Keith and Barefoot Rob on facebook scroll down we have some phone vidio's.

Flatpicker and rhythm player for 54 years.  Never get tired of it...

Seems for most of us who play for our own enjoyment, we gain some meditative sort of state from playing and/or singing.
What and how we play is secondary, as long as it gets us to that place.
It's not a competition, IMHO.

At the risk of oversimplifying everything.

Chord players have to get four, five, or six notes right at the same time, in time. They're like the body of the guitar.

Lead/fancy players only have to get one, two, and rarely three notes right at the same time, and don't have to be in time.  They're the bling.

Who has a tougher job?

No, it's not a competition. But who would you rather listen to for a 45-minute solo set?

Yeah, I could probably play circles around you if you were asleep. And when awake, that's usually one of the other guitarists jobs, isn't it? Rhythm guitarists rule, however. BB King never could play those stinkin' chords.   :cheers
