FG-325

I bought this guitar a few years back wanting because I wanted a decent beater I could bring to the cottage, sit around the campfire...etc.

It sat in my basement for all that time until recently.  I just need a couple of things, make a couple of adjustments and it should be fine after that.

It kind of looks like a Larrivee LS don't you think?  Or a Gibson LG?

I tried the serial number wizard for Yamahas and I think it dates back to the 80's.  The label says it was made in Taiwan, Republic of China.

The small body Yamaha's have always been cool guitar's.It may suprize you that it could become more then a beater....

Wehn I got it, it had really old strings and it still sounded great Rob.  I know it will be more than a beater but at least, for the price I paid, I won't mind if it takes a beating from time to time.  I plan on leaving out for my boys to play it.

I doubt it, solid wood guitars don't make very good beaters. A nice laminate guitar can handle the huge humidity and temperature changes involved with camping.

That's right Roger.  And this is no solid wood guitar but when I last had strings on it, it had a great sound.  Like unclrob said, it could become more than a beater.  Still haven't had the time to go to the store and pick the items necessary to finish this project.  I'm shooting for Saturday.

I've set up a few of these smaller body Yamaha's adding a bone saddle has always done wonders and of course putting on 12-54's helped alot in both the volumn and tone departments. Its my belief that the quality of the laminate that they use'd back then was what made them such nice guitars.I was never impressed with the dreads but the smaller one's

I've got so much to keep me busy this weekend but at some point, Sunday evening more than likely, I'll this guitar fixed up and finally put on a new set of strings.  I'm really looking forward to that!  It's got a 1 11/16" nut but I can adjust.  Just looking forward to having another guitar around the house.  One that needs only a chipboard case and no humidifier.

Well, I've got it pretty much set up.  I just need to adjust the truss rod and it should be just about right.  You know, for a laminated guitar, it sounds great.  It's got a 1 11/16" nut, that's going to take a bit of getting used to when you're used to 1 3/4" or bigger.  I was just strumming it a bit last night, tried some DADGAD...sweet stuff.  I'll try to make a video or something eventually.
