The only way to know for sure would be to ask Jean or one of his sons -
Bunch of Larrivees - all good -
and a wife that still puts up with me, which is the best -

From what I've heard he doesn't like to work with cedar. I can understand with how relatively soft it is to sitka. AFAIK Jean Larrivée feels that he's got a pretty good formula for tone: symmetrical parabolic X-bracing and carefully selected sitka spruce tops. You can't fault him for that.

Don't mean to sidetrack this thread but why wouldn't JCL want to build cedar top guitars?  Was it due to bad experiences from cedar supplier (I know, it sounds so naive), or this particular wood isn't able to withstand the bracing pattern that made his guitars famous?  Don't mean to imply anything; just asking.  :?

I'd be interested in an L-09 with cedar top/walnut (actually wouldn't it be great to have rosewood as alternate choice?).

...Jean IS the supplier.

To all,

Got an email from Jim Holler regarding the cedar/walnut request and he stated that Larrivee would not work with cedar. Would anyone be interested in a L-09 walnut with a spruce top as I have emailed Jim back to inquire about this...

This would be a step up from the 03's as they would have the gloss finish, 09 rosette and other attributes of 09. It would cost more, but we could ask about a July 4th deadline to give everyone time to put money away and recover from paying for the forum IV. These would probably also arrive right before Christmas, so those of us who are married could get our spouse to donate as a Christmas present (just thinking out loud).

The reason for moving to an 09 series would be due to many of you who posted an interest in a gloss finish.

Other suggestions for an F-V are welcome...

Please reply to this thread if there is an interest.

-James

Is there anything new to add to this thread? Any interest in a Forum V?  :wave

Cedar and walnut is a great wood combination!

I'd like an L body 12-fret spruce over walnut.
Play it daily for best results.

L body.
04 series - No bling, just something simple, but still with the gloss.
Enlarged soundhole (wonder what that'd sound like? :) )

Walnut back and sides.
Spruce top
Regular scale

Oh, what the heck - if we're just throwing stuff out there -

000-03 in maple - nice curly maple, if possible. 1-13/16 nut, 2-5/16 saddle, maple headplate, rosewood bindings, maybe slightly altered logo - larriVee (emphasizing the V for 5) -  oh, and maybe a pyramid bridge?

Just a thought - (dream?)

I have a 25/16 saddle on my OM and find it great, especially at the thumb-index transition.  It seems like a feature that's more common on dedicated fingerstyle guitars... definitely a great feature.

My OM-21 made in 93 is similar and it does play a bit easier than the 1 3/4. Somehow they also made the saddle spacing wider than specs. It is like the OM-21 Special spacing. Could have been a custom or just a good mistake.

Sounds nice....

I wasn't around for the previous forum guitars so I'm curious as to whether there's any current interest, planning, brainstorming going on or what it would take to get the process going again...
