Hello All,

My name is Benson Short and I am new to this forum. I recently got an opportunity to play a Larrivee for the first time, and I was smitten. I have been playing guitar for over 15 years and up to this point I have owned mostly lower end acoustic guitars; ibenez and yamaha. I had it in my mind that I wanted a taylor, but after really spending some time playing several guitars I know what I really want is a Larrivee. Of those I played the D-03r and the D-05 really stood out to me in tone and compliment of my voice, but I just really enjoyed the guitars. I found one new for more than I can afford in Portland Oregon, is anyone looking to sell for 800 dollars or less? I went straight home after playing Larrivees and sold my Ibenez for 300, and I had a Line 6 Variax that I sold for 600. That gives me 900 total to put towards a guitar, so I'm hoping to find one for 800 or less with shipping. Anyone interested? I am an avid guitar player, almost everyday. I lead worship for our church, but my favorite place to play is with my three kids dancing in our living room.

Thanks for reading my add,

Benson

Benson, I don't have a guitar for you but there may be several in the want ads. I might suggest you find out about the doughnuts and watch for replies.

wouldn't a D-05r be a D-09?

Nice to hear of your discovery of the world of Larrivee. I agrree they are an incredible guitar.

Keep an eye on our For Sale Section as the D 03r and a D 05 often come up or even more common the L series which you may like even more.

Please give the rules at the front of the forum a quick read - only takes about 2 minutes  :gotdonuts:

Once again  :welcome:  :cheers

No such animal as an 05R (unless it's Matthew's GOTM surprise). You must mean a D-03R which is a satin finished rosewood/spruce guitar. The 05 is a gloss version in mahogany/spruce and the 09 is the glossy rosewood (or specialty wood)/spruce model. The D-05 is the most under appreciated guitar in the Larrivée fold, imho. Highly recommended! By me.

Sorry I missed that part, and thanks for the gentle correction/direction,

Benson

Thanks Benson for the  :donut

Maybe if you describe the models you have in mind it might provide better clarity in what you are seeking.

03 series and less eg. 02 and 01 is satin finish and usually of mahogany family unless indicated otherwise hence the r stands for rosewood

05 series is the gloss mahogany series ( as the Duck indicates a very underrated guitar that sings ) what confused us all was the r you added to the D05r. See what I mean :?

 Benson,
I don't know where you are located, but this is a great link to find Larrivee guitars: http://instrument.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/music.cgi?cat=msg&fil=&itm=larrivee&state=&ps=&pe=&ys=&ye=&so=d&submit=+GO+.  I found out about it on this forum, and it lists all Larrivee guitars that are for sale on ebay, and craigslist.  Also, this forum and the Acoustic Guitar Forum are great places to buy guitars.  Most everyone on either forum are easy to work with.  Good luck with your search.  I am sure you will find what you are looking for.  Another thing, don't rule out the L-body guitars.  I play an L-03 which is a great guitar.   The nut is slightly wider at 1 3/4" instead of 1 11/16" and I find it more comfortable for me.

Benson,
Welcome to the forum... I'm a relative newbie myself    :donut2 :donut :coffee
I second the recommendation for following the link to kijiji mash for finding a guitar.  I found my JCL re-issue via Craigslist that way and it was relatively local.  I browsed it quickly and it appears there may be a couple that fit your bill nicely.
I came from an Ibanez Dread and ended up concentrating my search on Larrivees - in particular an "L" model, so I have to agree with many of the others posting here that you really ought to consider one of those.  If you have your heart set on a dread, there is one on Craigslist in the New Orleans area.  Spruce/Rosewood dread with a case for $795.  Might be worth asking about.  Heck, why not swing by New Orleans on your way home from Phoenix.  Might be some good pre Mardi-Gras festivities going on  :nana_guitar.  If nothing else, it would certainly inspire you to play the heck out of whatever guitar you find.

Good luck,  Dean

It does exist I have one. I don't remember the details but I was a dealer and a customer bought it. The top cracked and larrivee covered it even though it was humidity related. They told us to keep it and my luthier fixed the top but I own it now. It's a rosewood d05 and has D05R stamped inside.

Seeing is believing! I don't doubt you having one for a second if you say you do. It would be most unusual and against Larrivee model naming practices. To me it would be a labelling error and not something frequently encountered. If you are/were a Dealer I'm sure you know that.

Sorry it's been a crazy few years and I haven't even looked on here since my post. I can take and send a photo but can't figure out how to post it here. Maybe shoot me an email at my user name. I know I could post it somewhere and attach a link. But then I need to make an account after figuring out a postable place. Just seems like a lot of work. Email me and I will take and send some photos. Honestly I don't even know how we got it originally. Might have been a demo at MIAC(Canadian nammish show) maybe they were putting feelers for interest. We did weird stuff like that with good suppliers all the time. Gibson(through yorkville) we were know if you had something weird odd we usually didn't say no. Washburn made us some one off stuff etc... Godin did. This is all speculation as my memory doesnt remember details like they from the late 1993-2005. Hugga guitar in Saint John nb and Fredericton was my stores acquired my music stop in 2005 and they were acquired by long and Mcquade a few years later. As Joyce said could be a mislabel but doubt it. More like they showed us a sample/demo and we said we will take it. I actually live in rural Nova Scotia now.
