Composite Acoustics has shut down.  A shame.

Has anyone ever played an Adamas the father of carbon fiber guitars ?

Oddly enough I've played them and there very nice.Only problem round back on round front and I hate wearing velcro shirts. Also played the first round of CA's and they were also pretty nice but still prefer wood.I'll also add if I was a touring musician I'd be using them both are really good tools.

Were they not at the recent NAMM show??? Hmmmm. Not good not good as they set the benchmark in travel gits if you ask me. Fender or Gibson will likely scoop up their rights maybe :?

Looks like I got myself a collectors item. Nice people there. I had good service & some pleasant conversations with some folks there as a new owner a few years back.
Emerald (in Ireland) is back in business again. And there's Blackbird out in the Bay Area now too. Of course Rainsong.
It's rough when you're out there on the bleeding edge.
I wish nothing but the best to all their employees in Lafayette, LA where it was already a tough economy.
Most comfortable guitar I have ever played. No, of course it is not wood. It's not an "either/or" decision. I have wooden guitars. I bought the CA to play out in the long, cold Michigan winters so that I could leave my nice wooden guitars at home. I can have it in the car when the temperature is 10ºF and walk inside and immediately open the case and start playing. The pleasant surprise was what a nice guitar this GX Performer is and how great it sounds. So much more than just a travel guitar. Mine is not for sale.

A guy on AGF was in the middle of a special order Forum Guitar from CA....O wonder how many orders were placed for that guitar...

That's too bad for the guys that were expecting one of those...too bad for the guitar industry in general.

I played photmat's and was very impressed!

The real reason for the demise will probably never be known but suffice it to say RIP CA Guitars.

Your supposed to put 60 grit self stick sandpaper on the back of the guitar and then go shirtless.    I just pictured you shirtless, please stick with the wood guitars.  :roll

There were about 30 special orders on the AGF forum guitar for CA...those did not happen. Did pickup another OX from Macnichol as they are divesting themselves quickly of their stock of CA's. It is a shame....my favorite of the carbon manufacturers both in price points and sound of the guitars, hopefully someone sees the value in picking it up.

I hate to see anyone go out of business and what a tough business it must be these days. In a recession, there can't be a huge demand for composite guitars. I wish them luck in the future.

I recently purchased a CA OX. When I got it the bridge was lifting. Well long story short I sent it back to CA. They were supposed to start work on it Monday. Well I havent heard anything from them. I have been in contact with the dealer I bought it new from and he said he is in contact. He promised to work at getting my guitar back. It is scary though because am out the money for a new guitar- so not sure what is going to happen. CA seemed like an upstanding company and the dealer seems like a good guy as well. But right now am a little anxious. No website, no phone number and only way to contact them is through dealer. Patrick

Sit tight, laughingskunk. Your "only way to contact them is through dealer" is also the best way. And provides a second layer of protection, for now that CA is gone your dealer knows that you will hold him accountable to make it right by you, no matter what CA can or cannot do.
If I were a betting man, I'd say you'll come out alright in this.

I don't want to pretend that I have any expertise in this area, but it seems to me that if you have a receipt for the guitar, you should be able to contact the bankruptcy trustee and and have it returned to you.

They will typically take possession of all of the compnay's assets, but in this case, you have proof of ownership.  This serves as a reminder to always keep your receipts, as any time you leave your guitar with a service tech, it's nice to be able to provide proof of ownership to reclaim your property.

Well, this is the first I've heard that they had filed for protection under the bankruptcy laws.

Thanks for your words of support and encouragement. Yes would love to contact someone related to CA, but have no clue who that would be bankruptcy, etc. My fear is that the guitar will get misplaced or even sent out to a dealer with all the stuff going on. I do have a bill for the guitar so that is not the problem as well as the serial number. I will just wait and see what happens. I did send an email to the dealer with all the relevant information and was told to contact him next week, after he talks to CA again. It is just wait and see time now. I do want this guitar back of course- would prefer that over the refund of the money. I have a feeling CA's could be a hot item at dealers especially the OX. Patrick

Good point.  I guess I just assumed that a company that is solvent would not just walk away and lock the door behind them. If they were shutting down, they likely would have had better communications with their dealers and returned any instruments belonging to their customers.  Bottom line is that the OP should do his best to determine where the product is being held and do his best to communicate with who ever is in charge at this point.  Guitars don't just vanish, and he is the legal owner of that instrument.

That's my two cents worth, and I'd be interested in hearing from others who might have gone through a similar situation.  Many years ago, I had an electronic device that was in for warranty work, and when the company was in trouble they just refused to send merchandise out from their warehouse.  I can't remember what the conflict was about, but after many months of frustration I had a friend who was a lawyer send them a letter informing them that if they did not provide proof of shipping for the return of this item that was legally mine, he would send the sheriff and to repossess and have them charged with fraud & theft.  He gave them 24 hours before we would proceed.  I had my property back by the end of that week...

Sad, but I thought they were over priced.
