Perhaps it should be stated that Lollar Imperial pickups are outstanding. Highest quality. Jason Lollar is a giant in his field. Larrivée did not switch to their own proprietory pup because there was anything wrong with the Lollars. It was mainly a business and personal decision on the part of Matthew and Jean Larrivée, I believe. They learned a lot about pups when they first made electrics back in the 80's. They've learned from experience that proprietory parts, if possible, are better for business. Keeping it in the family just makes sense. My amber RS-4 with Lollar Imperials is ... totally outstanding!

I hear you but you buy a Gibson to get that Gibson sound or you buy a Fender Strat to get that fender sound. So I want to buy a Larrivee to get a Larrivee sound. I love that amber top. Very close to 1959 Peter Green LP that Gary Moore play with.

Although that was true at one time, I don't believe it's true anymore. If you want vintage Fender sound in an amplifier, for instance, you may find it elsewhere these days. If you want Gibson on the headstock, you buy Gibson. If you want Fender, that's what you get. If you simply want a fantastic guitar for less, you may want to look at a Larrivée. And if you're saying that a Lollar equiped RS-4 doesn't have "that Larrivée sound", however, I'm scratching my head, my friend.

I suspect if you bought it, and sent Matthew Larrivee the serial number (and he does watch these threads from time to time), he would send you a set of the Larrivee pickups.  He might charge you something for them, but I think he'd make it worth your while. Or, maybe you could send it back to Larrivee and have THEM install their pups in it for you.  I don't know if they would do that, but it would certainly be great customer service (which is great advertising), and I'd think they would want to have as many people as possible hear THEIR pups in your guitar as hear the Lollars - again, just good advertising.

Yep - coming to Canada.  This is for my 18 year old son - interesting that this is the electric he wants - being 18 and all!  Maybe it is because when I want to play my D-03 I've got to go find him and then I find my guitar.  It is his hard earned money - I remember wanting a motorbike when I was 18.  He has been playing a 1970's Ibanez so this is a big step forward for him - and the guitar stays in the forum family.  Thanks Michael!  Greg

I too am excited for you both!! It's an amazing guitar that is still under the radar for electric players, I'm certain it will break out mainstream, its just too nice not too.
