:nice guitar: both of them! What do you notice difference in tone/volume wise between the D & L.

Michael-

I've chimed in on a few threads about this topic, but I'm happy to keep typing with folks about it.  The more I discuss it, the more I learn.  First off, I'm a strummer that is trying desperately to become a flatpicker/fingerpicker.  I have limited experience with nice guitars.  In the last few months however (leading up to, and following my purchase of these two beauties) I have played lots of Larries (lucky to have two shops within an hour's drive).

To me, the D is a tad louder (as expected) when played moderately-hard to hard.  When I went to buy, I had a huge D bias and didn't think I'd get an L.   After playing several sizes and woods, the L-Rose combo was the one for me.  The D-Rose is awesome, as is the D-hog...we all know they are ALL awesome!  but I REALLY like the L-Rose.  The D-R was just a bit too much punch, and the D-hog and D-ovangkol didn't have enough low end (which I favor).

The silver oak is another beast all together. Very bright.  Lots of overtones (like rosewood) but a totally different and brighter flavor.  The bass is definitely there but it sounds more "woody" (whatever that is )  For me the L-SO wouldn't work (but my buddy just bought one, he loves it), too bright.  The SO is definitely a very unique sound.  I'm hoping it will be a nice bluegrass/flatpick strummer.  Really gorgeous and fun to look at regardless of sound.  I had a buddy from out of town visit, he's a Martin D-28 kind of guy.  He really liked the L03R, wasn't nearly as fond of the D03SO.

The more I play Larries, the more I want one of each!!!!  My next dream purchases would be a D-onangkol and an L-hog/sapelle.  I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen for a long time however.  Plus, I should probably dabble in other manufacturers (Guild, Martin, etc.), but the Larrie quality/price ratio is just phenomenal.

I'd be interested to hear your take on this.  From your website, I see you are a FAR more experienced and better player than I am.  For me, as I am literally blossoming into a guitar player, it is very exciting to develop "an ear" for the different woods.  What a great hobby, eh?!
