Getting a little restless

We all know how GAS can be a terrible disease, and I've suffered a fair amount from it.  But I'm debating whether what I'm feeling is GAS or legitimately wanting to move a new direction with the sound and feel of my Larrivees.  I've been experimenting with different strings and guages, so maybe that's fueling some of my restlessness.

I've had my LV-09BW for over three years now.  It's a stunning guitar, plays well (although I'd love to get a professional set-up on it), and sounds great.  It had a Baggs I-Mix in it when I bought it, but I've since replaced it with a D-TAR WaveLength.  It would take a lot for me to get rid of this guitar.

I've had an L-03MT that I bought off this forum back in January.  It, too, is a fantastic guitar.  Great looks, tone, etc.  I really dig the all-mahogany look and sound.

I'm not at all dissatisfied with either of these guitars; in fact, I'd be quite happy to have them for a long time!  I guess I'm just craving some different sounds or different feeling necks or something.  Maybe a slightly thinner neck profile.  I'm a big fan of Larrivee guitars, but it would be nice to have a different make in the house for some variety.  I can't really afford an outlay of money right now, so any change would come at the expense of my current stable.  Thing is, I don't think there's anything out there that will match the value of what I already have (i.e. solid woods, workmanship, features, etc.).  Maybe a trade?  I've never done one before, so it would be interesting to see what's out there.

I'm sure many have had the same feelings I'm having.  What did you learn?

Hang on to those Larrivées and when you can, add to the collection.  I wouldn't get rid of either one when in the future you'll be sorry you did (imo).

I've gotten rid of guitars including a couple Larrivee's to move on to something else. I don't regret selling any of them but I knew what I wanted. There's a difference between just wanting something new and wanting a certain thing. I wouldn't get rid of a guitar I liked unless I knew what I wanted to replace it with, especially if I've never heard the new guitar. I think you'd come out better if you went and learned somethings by trying out different guitars than if you just put this up online for trade.  It's better to buy what you know you want than to want to know what you just bought.

I see people posting all the time about how they play in a certain style and have certain guitars wanting to know if such and such new guitar would be a good fit. You're not going to see me asking this type of question.

I'm totally smitten with a D-18GE, but I know it's way out of my price range or trade values.

I was thinking more about my post and I really want to grab both of my guitars and head out to the shops.  I always play my guitar at home and love it, then I play other makes and models in the store and like them, but I never really get to see how they compare.  There are no Larrivee dealers here, but I do have access to plenty of Martins and Taylors, as well as McPhersons,Collings, maybe an H&D.  I need to hear and feel things side by side.  I also need to head north to some dealers that have some broader selections.

A nice maple would sure sound different, but if you are going to do it re-read the above advice and don't "give away" your nice Larri's. Danny

From the sound of things, you have two really nice guitars and virtually every post here has said to slow down and proceed with caution before selling them. I echo their sentiments because I would be hard pressed to say goodbye to either of those guitars.

It would be interesting to conduct a poll and see how many people have seller's remorse but I would guess it is probably at least 50% of the time. I have nothing to base that on but my recollection from reading different posts but a lot of people seem to regret letting something go. From personal experience, it takes me a long time to find what I'm looking for when I am buying a guitar but when it comes time to pull the trigger, I am probably the fastest gun in the East.  Right now, my next Larrivee will probably be one of the following: A Dread or LV-05 or OM-05 Mahogany (new or used since I don't have a mahogany six).

I was thinking the same thing earlier today... This isn't gonna stop.  It gave me pause. Danny
