Glad you figured out the picture thing.    Congratulations on a beautiful SD-50

Very pretty - the SD's have a most captivating shape - they force you to look at them as they have an outline that looks so different from most other guitars.  Mind you, I have a real weakness for slope shouldered dreads.  And they sound both sweet and powerful at the same time.

Hey lw216316,

Congrats on the new acquisition. Funny how I did the exact same thing to my L-03RE for my SD-50. But I miss it now. Keep it if you can. Mind if I share photos of mine here for a little gathering of the SDs?

My experience is unusual. The only guitar I played for 20 years was a wide neck ( 2 inches) classical.
I bought the L-03R because I thought I would be happy with and adjust to its 1 3/4 inch neck.
It was the only Larrivee I could afford.

When Notable Guitars had a sale on Larrivees, the SD-50 suddenly came within reach for me.
It's 1 7/8 neck is perfect for me. Even after weeks of playing the L-03R I could not adjust to its neck size.
The moment I picked up the SD-50 it was just like playing my wide neck classical.

I'm not comfortable on necks in the 1 11/16 to 1 3/4 range. I buzz strings and miss chords.
I am a fingerstyle player and need to articulate each note.
I also never got comfortable with the 14 fret neck compared to the 12 frets of my classical.

In short, I needed a steel string that was very much like my classical.

So I will post the details soon of my L-03R being for sale.

Very nice Larry!  They put a little something special in the 50 series IMO.  They just seem to have a knack for getting the best out of mahogany and sitka.  I've always found this a bit curious though.  Seems to me, way back at the beginning, Larrivee used nothing but rosewood for their guitars?  Whenever you see any Larrivee from the 70's or 80's, they're always rw back and sides, right?  I've played an SD-50 before, a couple of D-50's and of course, my 00-50.  They just sound right to me.   Still have to try a 000-50 too...

Congrats on a sweet guitar.

QuoteThey just seem to have a knack for getting the best out of mahogany and sitka.

Jason at Notable Guitars told me when I bought it that Larrivee mahogany was extra nice.

When I first shopped for a steel string I was strongly influenced to get a rosewood because of my rosewood classical. So the L-03R (rosewood) became my first choice.

Then when I decided to get a wider neck steel I also planned to get a rosewood.
But there were no SD-60 rosewoods available at the sale price, only the SD-50 mahogany.
And there was only ONE of those.

So I " took a chance " and ordered the SD-50. I don't regret it. I like the sound.  :thumb

No, you don't like the sound.  You LOVE the sound!   :nana_guitar
Play it daily for best results.

I love the Mahogany sides and back on my Larrivee.....  Was worried about it being a bit bright, but there's plenty of depth.

Love it!
