Garrison Guitars

I saw Paul Kelly last night, and his opening act played a Garrison G50. I never really thought of a Garrison guitar as a viable option before, but his sounded pretty good. It looked like a cross between a small dreadnaught and maybe an OM with the upper bout rounded in some. My only experience with trying a Garrison was at Mandolin Brothers where my memory seems to tell me they were pretty heavy which I think was due to their internal bracing system.

Does anyone have a better memory the guitar? His guitar looked and sounded pretty good and their prices don't seem too excessive.

I've tried the G50 as well as some others. I was not overly impressed with the others but the G50 was alright. A little too heavy for sure. Just makes me appreciate my Larrivées more.

I like the idea of the Garrison bracing system, but man, they are heavy guitars to play.

There were some beautiful gloss-finish cedar models at the local dealer that sounded very nice for the price, but way too heavy.

They were heavy then, it wasn't just my memory playing tricks on me. I kinda remembered thinking it was going to have to be a lap guitar as I couldn't imagine standing up with the fool thing for more than a few minutes.

I would estimate that they weigh 2-3 times more than an equivalently sized Larrivee.  It's hard to believe, but it was night and day, from my recollection.
