Well, I cancelled my subscription to this forum for awhile because I sold my only Larrivee and was spending too much time on here for not even owning a Larrivee. (In case you were wondering why I used to have over 1,000 posts and now very few :arrow

But now I can waste as much time here as I want because I just ordered my second Larrivee!  It's a used D-03 form Jim at trinity guitars.  Here it is:

I loved my LV-03E and looking back it has been the best sounding guitar I've ever owned.  I just couldn't get used to the wide nut width.  (An L-05 with vintage tuners, a 1 11/16's nut width and a gloss neck/headstock is my dream guitar but thats not gonna happen so I'm trying a Larrivee D)  So anyway, I'm back

Stuco, great looking guitar.  Fantastic price.  Jim did you right, as usual.

Sapele back/sides?  How does it sound?
Play it daily for best results.

As Borat would say: "Very nice!"

...and several other guitars.  Former Larrivees: P-01, OM-03R SH (Twelfth Fret special edition), P-01 Chris Hadfield special edition

I won't know for about a week.  I just ordered it an hour or two ago.  I was smitten by the wood on this one.

You can't go wrong with a D-03!! Welcome back to a Larrivee guitar!

Stuco,

Welcome back and congrats.  Looking at the photos I can say with 99% certainty, that it is sapele.  I hope you post a review of your new guitar and be interested in knowing if you hear a tonal difference compared to mahogany.  My L-03 sounds like mahog, but I haven't played side by side to hear the tonal differences that some folks claim to hear.

I like the streaks in the spruce top.  It looks like my OM top and it gets some real charater as the top tans.

Congrats, newbie w/ 1000 less posts.

Yes, it is definately sapele and I will report back to let you guys know if I think it is inferior like some claim.

Ok, I've had the guitar for a bit now and I'm really liking it.  I can't really say if sapele is inferior to hog because I can't do a side by side comparison but I did own an Lv-03e with hog back/sides and I can say that sapele does sound very similar to mahogany.  IMO sapele is a beautiful wood and I'm not dissapointed in it at all in either looks or tone.

 Had her for sale for a bit but I don't think I can do it.  Here it is:
