Planetwaves SOS Tuner

Hey boys and girls! You gotta try this cool tuner from Planetwaves. I just picked this one up at my local guitar shop this afternoon and it works like a charm!



It is the same size and shape as a large guitar pick bu much thicker. It has a guitar pick at the point and two red LED strobes. You turn the dial to the string you wish to tune, pluck the string and the LEDs shine on the string strobing to the frequency of that note. If the red line projected on your string moves up and down, you are either sharp or flat. When the line is straight and unmoving, you are in tune. It take a small watch type battery (CR1620 included) and has an autoshutoff feature. It is great for dark or noisy environments. You'll still need your normal tuner for capo or alternate tuning work.

The only thing I wish it had is a clip and lanyard to keep it around my neck, with a quick link like on my MP3 player!

This is not a laser product. It has two red LEDs like those little lights on your television remote control. The two little LED lights turn off and on at the frequencies of the vibration of the notes of the guitar. So even those who suffer from epilepsy would not be triggered by the strobe effect. You can look right into the beams of light. Christmas tree lights are brighter. Just for your 411. :)

I know, but a light emitting diode is still a light beam. Which I am afraid of.

i also have one of these and its great and works really well and was quite cheap.

That must make it incredibly difficult to sit in fornt of a computer monitor.
