I have a sneaking suspicion that the guy who owns Grizzly tool company might have something to do with it.

His catalog shows a few guitars that he has made - some of them beautiful, some downright ugly, and also shows Collings as a customer of his wood machining tools - in fact I believe I saw one of the catalogs where the owner of Collings was depicted next to I believe a planer from Grizzly.

With the wonder of the internet, you can see some of the guitars and inlay work he has put forth.
