Pretty sure that is walnut.

1990 Goodall Rosewood Standard
2007 Larrrivee JCL 40th Anniversary

1998 Larrivee D10 Brazilian "Flying Eagle"
1998 Larrivee D09 Brazilian "Flying Eagle"

Based on pics Larrivee has of a limited run of parlors they did in 2015, I will guess it is what they call black limba (korina).
It can look like that.
You should ask Guitar Center for the serial number.

(edit) You know you could be right, it does look like flamed walnut.

The contrast looks like black limba but the curly qualities make me lean toward walnut as it's more inclined toward having that quality.

I sort got curious about this, which is why I looked up D-40's and found the GC ad. It doesn't specify the wood tho.
The OP mentioned the walnut, so I looked up some examples and when I saw the flamed variety I thought that had to be it.
I am definitely not an expert on woods.
I did email GC and ask for the serial number, if they provide it maybe we can look it up.

Interesting, let us know what you find. It looks a lot like walnut with generous portions of sap wood. But, there's a couple things about the heartwood that confuse me. There's more black lines and a lack of the green bands often seen in walnut.
Here's a pic of Bastogne Walnut. I have a Froggy 000 in this wood and it looks somewhat similar to the D-40 in the OP.
Wood mysteries are always fun. Curious what this will turn out to be.

Well, we won't be finding out. The OP deleted his post and the GC ad has been removed.

Looks like he got what he wanted, packed up his guitar and went home without a trace. Bueno!

And maybe the OP got concerned when I mentioned the GC ad. I can't help it is so easy to find stuff.
Anyhow, if the OP bought the guitar I hope he comes back and tells us about it.
The wood did look pretty cool. I hope the whole package was the equal.

Right. I missed the implications of that one.  :cheers
