Well, I figured since I have some time to spare in the next few weeks, I'll start this thread on the OM-40R that Jean,Matt and the rest of his talented team of guitar craftsmen graciously decided to build for me.

I'll spare (for now) the details on how I came to meet Jean and his crew!

The Basic OM-40R Specs can be found at: http://www.larrivee.com/instruments/acoustics/40/OM40RW/om40rw.php

I was going to go all out and order an elaborately decorated guitar but Matt really placed some sense back into my "thick noggin" and wallet by suggesting the built to be "simple & elegant."

So with that I went for the following upgrade:

-  Select top grade Rosewood back and side
-  Select top grade wide grained Spruce for the top
-  Flamed maple binding
-  Torch headstock inlay (slotted)
-  Gloss finish (whole guitar)
-  Abalone style 09 rosette
-  Upgraded tuners
-  Signed label

O.K. enough said.... here we go:

Here's the first picture I took on the build. (Jean showing me the spruce top) I'll add more pix the next time I stop by to see them.  :cheers

Very cool.  Look forward to following the progression.

Chief...  way to go... really sounds nice... looking forward to seeing the finished guitar...

I love the JCL emblem they inlay on some headstocks... was that an option?   BobW...  :guitar

Sounds very nice and thanks for sharing the build progress.

That'll be a keeper. Thanks for letting us in to see. The Larrivees prefer to use wide grain spruce. I have one...they produce great tone.

What style of headstock?
12 or 14 fret?

That torch inlay looks really good on a slot head.

The headstock will be the standard non slotted square OM-40 style. 14 Fret.

Sounds great! The guitar will probobaly be
Larrivée L-03/Anthem SL (2013)
Gibson LP Studio VS (2013)
Marshall JTM-1C: 50th Anniversary Edition
Koch Jupiter 45-C

If I were commissioning a custom, I'd pick something other than maple binding.  Maybe koa.

Maple has too much contrast for my taste, I prefer more subdued.

That is gonna be a great looking and sounding guitar!

I just placed a custom order for an OM60. Can't wait!!

What sorta turnaround time were you given ?

Are you placing customer orders directly with Larrivee guys or do you have to use a dealer?

That would've been cool also.  :bgrin:
