Hi,

This thread is an ongoing discussion of terms and acronyms to be included in this web page

Larrivée Terms and Acronyms

Edit: The original post appears below

Hi Folks,

Can you help me with some of the acronyms used around here?

I just read a recent post and it has so many acronyms that for me, it may as well have been in some other language. I'm one of those people who gets a total case of frustrated brain freeze when people use acronyms. It can just about bring me to tears, or at least to the point of ignoring the attempt at communication.

Here are the terms

FM
IS
MT
OHSC
PB
RW
SH

I'm sure there are more in common use around here and if anyone can think of any and would be kind enough to expand them so that someone like me could understand, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks

ST

Post Script - I intend to create a wiki page of acronyms and common terms used when discussing Larrivée Guitars.  I'lll do that for my own sanity. If it helps others, that will be a bonus.

An acronym like ST for instance  :roll :roll                        :humour:
Larrivee Electrics - My Dream then and Now!!!!!<br /><br />Forum IV     00-03MT       #4      (Treasured)

ST, if you are looking for definitions of the acronyms I can help you out a bit.

FM =  flamed maple
IS  =  Italian Spruce
MT  =  Mahogany Top
OHSC =  Original hard shell case
PB  =  phospher bronze (strings)
RW  = Rosewood
SH  =  slothead

T the P =  Tuffythepug   :smile:

OK a couple more :

BR - Brazilian Rosewood

MR  - Madagascar Rosewood

IR - Indian Rosewood

QM - Quilted Maple

BC  - Bearclaw

LS - Larrivee L series "short"

OMV - Orchestra Model with a cutaway
Larrivee Electrics - My Dream then and Now!!!!!<br /><br />Forum IV     00-03MT       #4      (Treasured)

MT  =  Mahogany Top
OHSC =  Original hard shell case
PB  +  phospher bronze (strings)

SH  +  slothead

T the P +  Tuffythepug   :smile:
Thanks for that Tuffy. And Bill thanks you too. He now knows the the definition of "IS" is indeed Italian spruce.
That clears thing up for me as well. I thought someone was sending me coded messages to turn on my radio, drive to Montana in my souped up over head super cam truck while eating peanut butter sandwiches and then start a right wing cult.  And when I said that didn't really  sound like me and they replied "well how about 12F, SH" I thought they were saying something really nasty and calling me a shix head. Thanks, Bill and I feel much better now.
10-1614 more than a number, it's body and soul.

NH= Knucklehead...          don't ask me why it's not KH cause I really don't know.
MH= just good ole S.American Mahogany
SO= Special Order

So what does ST stand for :whistling:

LS - Larrivee L series "short"

OMV - Orchestra Model with a cutaway

LS actually means "Larrivee Small Body" and it was the first steel string sized body JCL made that was his own design. I think the first one was made in 1968.

Hi JOYCEfromNS

It came from a nickname from 30 some years ago. I no longer use that nickname but the story is here:

Hi Ben,

Thanks - I have now updated the page to include the acronyms in your post.

Larrivée Acronyms

SD -- slope dred?

Perhaps the single letters should also be included, e.g.:

W -- walnut

D -- dred

P or O -- parlour

etc.

Your list should be very useful.  Thx!!

ST  this is shaping up nicely.

           I think SP is sapele instead of SO.
Also TSB and SBT are the two designations for either a ''Total SunBurst" or just a "SunBurst Top"

Hi jumpjibe,

I'm fine with single letter acronyms... but are they all that common? I see the two and three letter acronyms most of the time.

What do you think folks?

Also - how about this?

SD = Slope Shoulder Dreadnought?  (Larrivée  Describes this as the Traditional Series

Thanks Danny,

Does anyone else have an opinion on this:

TSB - Total Sunburst

or

TSB - Tobacco Sunburst

I agree with Danny - Usually TSB is Total sunburst ( back and sides included ) and SBT is sunburst top ( no burst on back and sides )

EJ - non coated D'Addarios, available in -16s, -17s, -19s, etc -
EXP - coated D'Addadrios, available in -16s, -17s, -19s, etc -

IR - Infra-red,   EIR - East Indian Rosewood ( as in East Indies, never seen West Indian rosewood )

And I still think that LS is L-Small, but maybe it was designed before the L - I  thought it came later -

Great work ST -

Tad
Bunch of Larrivees - all good -
and a wife that still puts up with me, which is the best -

Hi Tad,

Funny I just added the EJ and EXP acronyms with links to the D'Addario site.

East Indian Rosewood is in the list.

LS  Larrivée Small is in the list with a link to the dimensions.

TSB is now Total Sunburst - I didn't know about the back and sides included

Does anyone have a picture of a Total Sunburst Larrivee?

I'm also looking for pictures of of a Florentine Cutaway Larrivee - thanks.
