Probably a silly question, but can someone tell me which wood this is?

Thanks,

Michael

Silver oak maybe.

If you go here...

https://www.larrivee.com/manufacture-date-lookup

And enter the serial number (found on the neck block inside the guitar) you can find when it was built and with what woods.

Ed

Pretty sure that is Swamp Ash.  Jean made a couple runs with that wood.

I believe you're right.

Another vote for Swamp Ash.

How does it sound?

This guitar just came up for sale in Europe, but not where I live. In the listing the seller says it is mahogany, which I doubted and therefor asked you guys.

Looks like you're all thinking it is Swamp Ash. I never heard of that, but agree after checking it out. What beautiful trees they are in those swamps!

Now I have asked the seller for the serial number. I will let you know if I get it and can check.

This D-03 was first listed as a L-03, which is why I reacted. If this were an L-03 I would go there. As it is now I will let it, even though I am very curious to hear what it sounds like.

Ok, the seller gave me the serial number and yes, it is a D-03 from 2014 with Swamp Ash back and sides . . .

Hardly surprising, thanks to your help

I have to say, it looks really sweet with that dark binding on it.

Looks very much like my Swamp Ash with Rosewood binding. Limited Edition 2014.

John, any chance you want to describe the sound of your guitar? Nothing scientific, not comparing woods. Just what you think . . .

I'm afraid it's hard for me to find words to describe tone--I don't know the vocabulary. Here's a try: Very articulate. Lots of overtones. Bright but not shrill. Some people have described a guitar as 'piano-like', but this instrument is more 'harpsicord-like'.

Here's a review from an AGF member: https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=346027

Thanks John, appreciated!

Makes me want to hear it . . .
