This is a stunning work from Jean Larrivee.
Not everybody's cup of tea, and don't even consider the CITES regulations on it as far as travel.

However, click on the site, and see what the family is donating the funds from the sale to.

The very brief time they were in Victoria, after Toronto, produced some staggering guitars.
I have a couple of the fancier ones. Not as fancy as the one above (which was also from the Victoria days) but it was certainly a time of creative experimentation for Jean and the gang.

They still do a couple of these a year  (minus the bridge of course)

Have to say that I hate the look of that bridge. Just looks wrong to me.

I like the rosette  :donut

"Live simply so that others may simply live"

Has anyone here played one of those?  I'm wondering how different it sounds with an ivory bridge...or if it is just a cosmetic effect.

Yes, in the early seventies, the manager of the Toronto Folklore Centre used to come to Montreal to play at the Yellow Door.

he always brought a couple nice Larrivee's with him. I do recall one with an ivory bridge, and the sound was (recalling that long ago) more brittle than warm to my ears.

Very cool guitar, although I'm with Tom - never been a fan of those stark white (even though ivory) bridges. Same year ('79) as my L-19, and the fretboard inlays look the same as on mine. The Rosewood on the b&s of this one look like the same quality of (Indian) Rosewood as on mine, too.

These are WONDERFUL guitars, even by Larrivee standards.

:nice guitar:

indeed, my post was more about the Jim & John Daddario and them selling some of their collection for a cool idea.
The fact that particular guitar is part of the collection and for sale was of interest as a Larrivee owner.

We all love our guitars, and rightly so, no matter how fancy, or how modest.
we make make music with them, and it feels good.
Some of us have more than we need, and some of us are bling snobs.
some of us are wood snobs, or Victoria/vancouver or Toronto build snobs.

I like them all, and i play them all.

And hand scrimmed  artist elephant tusk bridge, is just something that was part of the build of the day.

Again, the post, is really about the owners...

THAT being said, I am also in the process of selling a few of my collection and giving several away to folks I feel would use them or love them.

at last count, I regularly play only a few of the lovely instruments I have acquired over the years.

Recently, in another city, I played a 6k handmade guitar, it was ok.
then i played a beat up used Larrivee low end d mahogany, with a pick up and a crack in the top. (priced at $800)

Guess which one was the much better sounding guitar?
I'll give you a hint.
it wasn't the 6 k one.

Niether guitar had an ivory bridge BTW.... :beer :guitar :roll

Great that Jim D'Addario is donating money to a good cause but this is essentially a guitar forum so we're likely going to talk about the guitar. No disrespect intended.

I have Larrivee's from three eras and three locations: 1979/Victoria (L-19); 1992/Vancouver (OM-05); 2015/Oxnard (L-05)

All three are top notch builds and all three sound great. Ironically, with the DR Strings/Veritas strings I have on the L-05 right now, it sounds the best of the three, and its the newest (and Calivornia built). Go figure... but the L's ALL just sound so good.

You are missing a Toronto build!

I'm betting my '79/Victoria L-19 is very similar to your '75 L-11 - minus the Brazilian Rosewood, of course!  :crying:

DO IT!  DO IT!  (We won't mind your embarrassment if we get to see that picture.)

Who knows it might be better but still and all .......   :laughin:

I have always tried to shy away from tone wood snobbery, even though I'm guilty of the same.
The old BZ C-09 stage guitar I have is simply the most present, articulate, responsive Larrivee I own.

well I sold a couple beauties the OMV-50 TSB NAMM mate to my OM-60 TSB, as well as the stunning first month production RS4.
owning and not playing, (for me) doesn't make sense, when so many others could own and appreciate .....
