I just bought a T-09-RW travel guitar from Larrivee. I wanted the smallest guitar with the biggest sound and that's just what I got. This is a beautiful instrument. My wife and I sing together and this guitar is doing a great job for us. I have a GS mini Koa, a Cordoba Crossover C-10, a Martin 00-28. I like them all for different reasons, and that goes for this Larrivee as well. I had a Larrivee back when I was playing professionally and it was a great guitar.I went away on vacation and left it on the stand with the heat on up in Maine. Came home to a pile of wood, really. Destroyed the guitar. But I always wanted another one. I like small bodied guitars and this is the most well made small body I've seen. I'd post a picture if I could figure out how to do it. I'd like to hear from others who have a T-40 or any small bodied Larrivee. Thanks

Congrats! Now you have me curious Does it tune to standard or do the tenors tune higher?

Welcome to the Larrivee Forum. Don't be a stranger here; you can acquire a lot of insights from this forum. Sorry to read about your unfortunate experience with your first Larrivee but glad to see you back.  I'd be interested to know more about your T-40 including what strings you use and if you keep it in standard tuning.

On the small side, my first Larrivee was a new flamed maple parlor purchased in 2004. I also have an original Martin Backpacker in Nashville tuning, a Little Martin, a Kala Baritone 4 string ukulele, an 0 sized guitar (my first) made in Italy by the now defunct Giuiletti Accordian Company and a 1930s era Oahu Hawaiian Square Neck guitar that my wife found in an antique store for $20. Last fall, I added an all mahogany Larrivee 00-24 to the mix.

It tunes to standard tuning. I have D'Addario 12's phosphor bronze on it now. I usually experiment with strings as I go, but these are fine. Might try 11's. It surely doesn't need medium gauge strings like the Taylor. Far better projection and clarity with the Larrivee.

Peter,

Nashville tuning is also called high string tuning and can be used to add texture/layering to a recording. You can google Nashville Tuning on you tube to see some demos.

I use the octave strings from a light gauge, 12 string set but you can also buy a set of pre-packaged Nashville Tuning strings (I.E. D'Addario or GHS offer sets). Cautionary note: the third (g) string is often .09 or .10 and usually the first to break.

On Backpacker models, the smaller body size is ideally suited for Nashville Tuning. I'll bet your T-40 would sound great. I should try it on my parlor but I have an 0 sized guitar that I have strung up for Nashville tuning in the past.

Kansas recorded "Dust in the Wind" with a Nashville tuning guitar and Gordon Lightfoot recorded "Ode to Big Blue" with Terry Clements playing lead on a high string (Nashville) tuning guitar.

Thanks, I must research this. Never heard of it. Appreciate it.

Which Larrivee is the best?

The one in your hands at any given moment.

Glad you got another. I've a p-03 mahogany and more recently, a p-03 rosewood with moon spruce top. They are great, great, great little guitars.
